Today, April the 25th is ANZAC day, a solem day of remberance across Australia and New Zealand for those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country in armed conflict.

On this morning in 1915 our young nations were sent into battle for the first time (alongside brave men from the Dominion of Newfoundland who weren’t yet part of Canada) and thus started 4 years of bloody conflict where there were no winners or losers and by the end of it 1 in 17 Australians was killed or wounded. The New Zealand casualties were just as high. The Newfound battallion was virtually  wiped out .

We may play at wargames on table tops across the world, but it is always good to remember that war is a thing to be avoided where possible, and that a high price has been paid for the freedoms and lifestyle we enjoy. Thank you to the men and women of armed forces who have served and continue to serve, I hope the we always try to be worthy of your sacrifice.

    Have a good day

Thanks @beadragon14 for doing an ANZAC day post.  My first ANZAC where I have not been on cenotaph duty or marching in the local  ANZAC day parade ( I’m getting ready to discharge out).

It was great to see so many people out at my local dawn service. I wore my Great-Grandfathers Medals and it was really good to see so many people wearing their parents and grandparents medals as well, good to see people’s family history isn’t being forgotten. (Here in Australia direct descendants can wear family members medals on their Right Breast).

Private Frederick Jones, 1943-1945 left his wife and 3 year old daughter and joined the 31/51st Battalion, 11th Brigade (only Militia Unit to see deployment in non-Commonwealth territory) and fought at Bougainville before coming home with brutal Malaria that took years to fully recover and left him constantly sick for life.

Went with my kids to the local dawn service. It was unexpectedly moving and powerful.
