About the Project
I create a set of proxy Necron for the Space Marine Adventures Board game. Using a bunch of Sci-Fi models I had hanging around.

Custom bits and dice variant
Most of the cards in this game are a reasonable size however some are of far less reasonable size.
Chief offender is the activation deck. Each card has a single element on it a color paired with an icon.
It’s used to activate a space mouse or tigger the neckwrong.
It’s only 12 cards deep. Oh boy it’s both over sized and low count the worst kind of deck that you can put in someone’s hand to shuffle.
so I made thematic replacement tokens. T-800 robot skulls for the necron and colored mouse heads for the space mice.
I also made a set of small tiles that can optionally replace the single die rolls in the game. There are 4x tiles of numbers 1-6. When you would roll a die now you draw a tile instead.
Dice and luck are great for most games but as solo games go chaos makes it harder to know if your overall skill is improving or if you just had a lucky game.
This version keeps the tension of unknown results but ensures each game has roughly equal luck.
Painting Progress!
I did a bit more to the paint work and am happy enough with the results that I feel mostly finished. I may go back and clean up a few details but I have more games I’m excited to paint.
Main improvement was highlights via normal paint layering and dry brushing with a make up eyeliner brush. I use a small ceramic pallet and pretty much turn my paint into a makeup powder.
I then touched up the gold
Added a Base coat of pig iron to some details. I may go back and put in a glaze and highlight on the iron. I also added some chipped paint to areas where there defects in helmet casting.
Then put a few more coats of paint and shade on the shoulder pads.
Nest update I will show off some custom tiles I made for the game to replace some game components.
First play!
To motivate me to paint I figured I would actually give the game go.
First I would categorize this as sort of a puzzle combat board game. The pieces of the puzzle are all fairly simple but it’s great to see how they are connected and interlock.
For a solitaire adult the game was engaging with some nice points of tension and risk/reward. I could see the game being quite fun for a group of kids or Parent and child. I’m interested to see if it would work well with multiple adults but I kind of feel like It would be annoying to not have control of all the guys.
I played the first level and will save the rest for after I’m done painting.
I poked around the extra components in the box and have to say I’m quite happy to see the advanced challenge cards.
As an adult solo gaming I’m very tempted to replace the single die rolls with a deck of dice but the dice are fun in their own way.
glamour shot and list of things I need to improve
I took a moment to set up a nicer action photo for the project header.
And now to think about what I want to do to call this project “done”
The space mice need an extra color and a highlight pass to clean up their powder blue armor.
I also feel like I could add an extra accent color to the Necron. maybe just the leader and 2nd rank guys to help them stand out a bit more.
oh I also need to try playing the game.
Shiny Shiny Robots
Who can resist a hoard of chrome baddies.
Space marine adventures has four level of bad guys.
I replaced the basic warrior with the T-800
The next two are combination of parts from the Antares Algoryn Ai command frames
The biggest one is an Antares Garh assault thing.
I bought most of these while Warlord had the frames on sale. I had no idea at the time what I was going to use them for.
I will be doing a tutorial on how I chromed the robots if your interested.
Back Story
A while back I bought the Space Marine Adventures Board game. It included chits instead of Necron.
I don’t have any Necron as I’m not interested in owning the emo knock off of T-800 Endoskeletons.
luckily I had a box or two of actual TRUE Terminator Endos from Warlord games along with some of theirAntares miniatures. So I did some Spring Cleaning and repurposed these kits to make a proxy force of Necron.
Why I gave the Space marines Mice heads should be self explanatory.
