Shinobi7 Drop More Details For Conan: Savage Legends
April 16, 2019 by brennon
Shinobi7 has been talking about more details surrounding their upcoming Conan game which bears the title Savage Legends.
This new game from them will feature Conan doing battle on the tabletop in a strategic turn-based skirmish board game. You will create warbands made up of legendary heroes and villains from his world alongside grizzled and dangerous companions too.
As well as being put together as a clash of arms between different warbands there will also be options for solo and co-operative campaigns based on the work of Howard. Since this is a skirmishing game that means miniatures so here's a first look at Conan!
He looks over-the-top which is perfect for Conan. It looks like they've drawn from a lot of the comic book art here for this model which is always a good idea when you're going for big and heroic.
Since the previous Conan game is very much treading water it's nice to see that someone else is looking to bring Conan to the tabletop. Obviously, we shall wait and see when it comes to the mechanics but I like their initial ideas.
What do you think?

Initial thoughts, they’ve definitely captured Conan’s look as you say.But i’m waiting on MB:Ragnarok to drop,so a visit to KS for this is off the cards.Maybe take a second look if it makes it to retail in the future.
I don’t know if this makes a difference to you, but this is a different company.
Monolith makes Mythic Battles (and did one of the previous Conan games) while this is developed by Shinobi7.
That is really good looking sculpt for legendary barbarian.
Looks great, but I am somewhat apprehensive, is Shinobi 7 not made up of a bunch of the former members of Soda/Pop Ninja Division?
No. Shinobi7 doesn’t include anyone from Sodapop.
Shinobi7 is one of several companies that used Ninja Division as their retail publisher in the US (along with Archon, Backspindle and quite a few others- even Succubus Publishing had plans to publish Middara through Ninja Division).
A lot of those companies have split with Ninja Division recently. Although there wasn’t a bit announcement, I have confirmed that Shinobi7 did split with Ninja Division, and are now acting as their own publisher.
Nice mini, hope the game will be great! Concerning the “treading water conan”, this shinobi game seems to be the reason why : Monolith is not allowed make another ks before Shinobi’s Conan.
Will it be conan only or howard only ? (with solomon kane for example)
It seems like the Conan’s been adapted for a lot of games in the past few years- all from different game studios. I wonder how tangled the rights web has gotten.
Monolith has repeatedly implied on their forums that they would like to do another Conan KS in 2020. There’s even an ongoing discussion about what people would like to see in that campaign. Will there be some sort of “bidding” war over Conan rights in the future or did Shinobi acquire short term rights. Will their game be a quick “one and done” or do they have long term support planned?
I suspect that the Conan folks are selling “non-exclusive” rights all over the place (the way that Games Workshop is doing now). But I don’t know for sure.
Monolith will probably want a “one and done” Kickstarter option. It seems that they’ve had a bad experience with retail releases, so that’ll be their model going forward.
“Non-exclusive” rights sounds like a great idea, actually. (: Helps reduce the price of the IP to small companies and lets consumers make their own decisions on the game system. Also, if a KS fails, such as the Pulpasaurus KS, the IP holder doesn’t have to start all over with finding someone to purchase the license. I know Monolith tries to save a few bucks, such as allowing Adrian Smith to paint what he wanted for the cover of the Monolith Conan boardgame, which depicts skeletons, even though the base game has no skellies! 😀 I doubt it’ll happen, but… Read more »
I think there were two Conan board games that came out from different companies already. The Monolith game, and another one that was more of a strategic level area control game (where Conan himself is an NPC that moves from province to province and causes trouble). I think that especially in the realm of board games, there’s a LOT of room to have very different takes on the same IP. Part of GW’s agreement is that people not make minis that could be used in their other games (which is why Relic had busts and Chaos in the Old World… Read more »
