Mighty Ogryns & Warmaster Horus Emerge For Warhammer 40k

Games Workshop's Imperial Guard are getting another big boost to their forces with a range of plastic Ogryns on the way to accompany this reboot of the forces of mankind. See what you think of the sneaky leaks we picked up from around the web.
First up we have a look at the standard Ogryns, or what I perceive to be the standard ones anyway. It looks like we'll be getting a standard set up weapon wise for these but with an update to the look bringing them more in line with the Ogre appearance from Warhammer. Tweak that again with that veteran looking Ogryn which could well be the special character Nork Deddog and maybe you can have an entirely Ogryn army?
You might well want to consider that once you see these rather burly looking Ogryns with shields and heavier armour. Interestingly when I was playing an Only War role-play one of the Ogryn characters did essentially pick up a shield like this. Maybe Games Workshop have been listening in?
On the other side of the coin we have this quad-cannon based tank that is most likely going to be an anti-air style affair enabling it to deal with flyers. While a new tank is awesome I still love the idea of these Ogryns at the moment. The look might be a bit Goonies but I think that adds to the potentially mutated idea behind some of the demi-humans.
Last but not least we have the Warmaster himself, Horus. When I shared this picture with a few friends of mine they all said that 'they had expected a bit more' and I can see what they mean when it comes to how dynamic some of the others have looked. However, he is the Warmaster and he is the calculated thinker rather than a barbarian warrior. He certainly looks like he is directing his troops at any rate.
What I'm waiting for is the duel diorama between Horus and the Emperor. Now THAT is going to be a collectors item worth having.

It would be fair to say I’m not a fan of those Ogryns. Trying to do a mini of a legendary figure like Horus is always a hiding-to-nothing but they’ve done a pretty good job on that one.
I’m glad they haven’t gone for a “running up a mountain” style action Horus, this is the first model for him and I think they mentioned at the very start they would have at least a couple of Horus variants so perhaps the corrupted chaos version will be a bit more imposing but I like this one anyway 🙂

I like Horus, the face is probably the best I’ve seen from any part of GW, it’s also clever having the before and after of corruption they are doing with this line, I think that will make an excellent display when the chaosified version eventually appears.
Not a fan of ogryns in general, but I can say they are better than the models GW have put out previously for these. The bane mask one is quite a decent looking thing really.
I like the normal ogryns, they’re big derpy blokes with huge guns that look like they want to smash something. They’re ogrysn 😛 . Certainly better then the metal ones. The shield ones not so much, they look too smart. Anyone else think those shields look like the black ops 2 ones?

The third Ogryn down reminds me of the Toxic Avenger.
Surely that is not a criticism? The toxic avenger is probably one of the greatest movies of the 20th century.
That depends on whether you want your Ogryns to look like the Toxic Avenger. No value judgement on the movie or franchise is intended.
If it looked like the toxic avenger I would clearly buy it. In fact, all Ogryns ought to look just like Toxie, a true American hero, and the epitome of the American dream.
I agree they don’t look too bad. I don’t think the colour scheme suits them though, too bright for run-of-the-mill armed forces, imho anyway.
I am really liking both types of the new Ogryns, except the weapons on the armored ones. what are they? rocket launchers? cannons? giant batons? I am thinking of giving mine riper guns and shields.
I would love to see a Sanguinius model for a diorama with Horus. Painting wings is so much fun.
Really like all these releases – especially Horus! Awesome sculpt and paint job for the Warmaster – particularly as this is early Heresy with more chaosie/ angry poses to come 😀

Ogryns look boring. Another missed opportunity to do something interesting. Horus looks good tho.
I love the ogryn with the gas mask head. I’d be very happy if I could make a squad with all gasmask heads on them.
Horus just makes me want to collect Horus Heresy. I’m seriously considering it.
I really like Horus, actually, except his cloak which looks a bit static.
Those Ogryns though… ye gods. They are terrible. Some of the blandest looking minis I’ve seen in a long time, completely devoid of character, and even the guns look awful.
Who the F*** sculpted those Ogryns? A blind one armed chimp?

Or they’ve been watching too much The Hill’s Got Eyes! Just ’cause you’re a mutant doesn’t mean you have to be a generic mutant. They never seem to get these guys right, but at least the pretty dubious metals had character and charm, and you could see one of these guys being your loyal bodyguard. The sprue could save them, we have no idea what head options and extra details – that you can glue to the body – will be included. Ya I agree, when I see these I don’t think Ogryns. They are all neat and clean, ya its partly the paint job but not all of it. I mean one of them with the shield(i think its the bone ‘ead) has a trimmed mustache and soul patch, lol, why? I personly can’t picture a ogryn with a little pair of scissors looking in a mirror trimming his mustache, I picture a ogryn trying to smash the mirror cause the guy inside was staring at him or maybe some scragely patches cause he was trying to copy a officer but… Read more »
Well as a collector of a Horus Heresy, Sons of Horus army as you could well imagine I am so excited over getting that Horus mini that it could well involve a change of trousers once I get my grubby little mits on him.
Some of the new IG stuff looks great though I have never been a fan of the Ogryn though I can see what they have looked to do. Not for me but I can see their charm to those that are collectors of such a unit.

I heard the new ogryns looked ugly – they were right. The ‘Bane’-like one with the gas mask is cool. The first one looks like he has chaos armour on with Aquila’s stuck down the front of it. They’ve lost their character with these new sculpts, and I don;t like how they’re made to look like the Ogres. Actually, because they look like Ogres, who have better looking characters, you could convert them with the guns and armour from these to make much better looking Ogryns. I’m not entirely sold on those Ogryns yet, maybe if they were painted different I’d like them more.
Certainly don’t hate them as much as everyone else seems to. Then again, I almost like the centurions… ALMOST mind you.
Horus has a very crafted face. Compared with all of the other primarchs his face is the most beautifully crafted. The only thing that is not so great about him is his cloak.
Much prefer the current Ogryns. For Horus and for all the Primarchs I’d go to Den of Imagination instead
