Braincrack Games have been unveiling details about their latest historical board game offering, set in the heart of Northern Italy.

In Venice, players take on the role of influential merchants in the 16th century, navigating the city's many canals in gondolas. Train your assistants, complete your contracts, and leverage your influence to become a prestigious person of political power - by whatever means necessary. Operate on the fringes of the law, but avoid the suspicions of the Venetian Inquisition, or face political and financial ruin!

Suspicions are raised the more often you are seen in the canals by other passing merchants but can be lowered again through visits and donations to churches and academic institutions. While being a well-known merchant can be a lucrative advantage to your career, at the end of the game the most suspicious businessman will be made an example of by the Inquisition, so careful planning is needed!

Venice is an interesting worker-placement game which incorporates point-to-point movement mechanics to make an interesting mid-level strategy game. There's no official date for release, Braincrack Games have said the Kickstarter will launch somewhere between Essen 2019 and Christmas, so keep an eye on their website for further information.

Fun Fact: Gondolier is seen as a man's job in Italy. It wasn't until 2010 that Giorgia Boscolo broke the trend, passing the strict exam to become the first female gondolier!
