CEG Preview Upcoming Demon Battler Board Game Sanctum
April 12, 2019 by brennon
Czech Games Edition are looking to get you battling demons with a new game slated for release later this year. Sanctum has you taking on the role of valiant heroes trying to defeat demonic foes and the Lord Of Demons himself with dice-chucking combat and more.
The game has been designed by Filip Neduk and is for between two and four players. It has shades of Diablo and other hack n' slash style video games, converted to fit into the board game world. You will be battling through various scenarios, gaining experience and gearing up for your final confrontation with the Lord Of Demons himself.
Sanctum, once a great city, is now the last beacon of light in a world shrouded in darkness. The lands surrounding the city are home to the demon horde lead by the Lord of Demons. It's up to a handful of heroes to rise up, battle through the horde, banish the evil that plagues the world, and restore the realm to its former glory.
As you delve deeper into the game, getting closer to the Lord Of Demons you'll have to deal with more tactical and challenging combats, pushing you to your limits as you work out the best combination of gear and skills that you'll need to take on your foes.
One thing I'd say about the game is that whilst it's neat to see them bringing that Diablo feel to the tabletop I'm not overly sold on the characters right now. I like that they're a little different from your standard fare but they seem very divided, especially in their aesthetics. Maybe it will change as we get a look at the artwork and painted models.
What do you make of Sanctum from this early tease?

I like what I’m seeing here and I personally don’t see anything wrong with the characters.
I can almost hear that game saying… ‘Elf need food badly!”… which probably won’t make any sense to anyone born after the 70’s…
Continuing the Gaunlet analogy we have warrior, thief, wizard(ess) and elf and I personally don’t mind the characters if it’s just a dungeon crawler. Is that what you’re not sold on @brennon?
Unfortunately, the teaser video reveals absolutely nothing and I’d need a lot more information before I considered purchasing.
If they keep gameplay episodic and 60-90 minutes it might be fun as a break from RPG night
Look’s interesting.
