Hi folks. You’ll note that we have been running a series of articles on Monday’s from community members and others outside of OTT and I’d like to open up our emails to you folks submitting more.
We’re looking for articles that range from in-depth through to quick and cheerful and they can be on anything from the hobby itself through to a specific game that you enjoy.
Everything will go through either me (Ben) or Sam and we’ll work with you to get articles to the front page of OTT. It should be noted that all submissions are on a voluntary basis as we’re not in the position to offer payment yet. I thought it would be a good idea to get that out of the way early. I’m not going to spin the yarn of ‘you get paid in exposure’ but if you like to write and want to share your thoughts on the industry, we love hearing your voices.
As examples of work done in the past, of course, we have oriskany who has provided dozens of historical articles as well as cypher2009 who recently worked with us on the St Nazaire series.

Armistice Centennial: The Final Days Of The Great War Part One – The Hundred Days
…amongst many others too.
If you’re interested please let me know in the thread below and I will PM you with more information. Please feel free to share this with others who you think might be interested as well even if you’re not!
April 1, 2019 at 2:12 pm #1370623I don’t want to be rude…. but… on April 1st such an article could be seen as….
Not saying that it is but maybe release it a day later? 😉
Also, sign me up. If you’re willing to risk your (or Sams) eyesight on my writing XD

April 1, 2019 at 2:18 pm #1370626So, I’ve been involved in this community for many years, joining backstage the very day the guys announced it. I’ve often thought about how I could contribute and give a bit back, but I have a very busy work schedule and struggle for time.
I do have a couple of things I have wanted to write about though, one in particular.
The pressure to be good. I see it a lot, ‘that paint job is so good I don’t know why I bother’ and so on. As an average painter myself, I think its important that we don’t set standards too high for everyone. Some are fantastic painters, writers and modelers, inventive GMs and so on, that is great and I love seeing all those contributions. We don’t all have to be that good though.
Can’t give any sort of timeline for when I could write an article like that, I have to fit things in with general life, but if you are interested let me know.
April 1, 2019 at 2:19 pm #1370627I’ve a bit more spare time than usual at the moment and have a few ideas for articles that might be of interest to people on BoW/OTT but would be quite left field in relation to gaming, if you are interested.
April 1, 2019 at 2:20 pm #1370628Great stuff folks – will PM both of you @nogginthenog and @robert
April 1, 2019 at 3:45 pm #1370656Sounds interesting; unfortunately don’t think I have anything to offer for this. Only thing I could think of is maybe short story writing (if I could stop procrastinating ?).
April 1, 2019 at 4:07 pm #1370658April 1, 2019 at 6:56 pm #1370713I would like to vouch for the team at OTT. The work they did on my articles to make them readable was spot on. They are really helpful and full of ideas.
If anyone has an idea, email it over to Ben and/or Sam and run with it. The hardest thing you will have to worry about then are the deadlines. 🙂
Good luck to everyone who looks to write.
I may need to have a think about the next article I can do…. hmm….
April 1, 2019 at 9:26 pm #1370752I used to run a blog for the local Hackspace – more electronics, motors, robots that kind of thing – but it kind of fizzled out last year after about five years. I kind of miss it. But I’ve a few things in the pipeline which means I can’t publish articles every few days (I averaged about 12 articles a month).
I’d love to do something similar though; I just went from 3d printing virgin to building my own £100 kit off fleabay and am printing stuff to a quality pretty close to a £2k Ultimaker. Some lets-learn-together tech stuff would be cool (and, of course, I’d love to blather on about stuffing tiny little LEDs and motors into terrain).
If that’s a bit too tech-y, I’ve been giving myself just an hour a night lately to paint my he-man minis; I’ve got more done on miniatures in the last few weeks than I’ve done in twenty years 😉
April 1, 2019 at 10:50 pm #1370756For four years I wrote for Beasts of War / OnTableTop, 136 articles totaling about 300,000 words. All this time, working with @brennon and @dracs was always a treat.
If you are even thinking about this, take it from me (and I publish professionally and casually, gaming and non-gaming, fiction and non-fiction, etc.), you will be hard-pressed to find more supportive editors.
Do it. Reach out. Get involved.
April 2, 2019 at 12:17 am #1370763I’m in. I can write some historical and sci to articles on games I mainly do homegrown rules for convention games
April 2, 2019 at 9:24 am #1370844Sounds great @brennon
