So FFG have announced the Rebel Veterans Unit Expansion (price US$ 29.95) and Tauntaun Riders Unit Expansion (US$ 24.95).
I’m sure a certain OTTer will be pleased about this.
YouTuber Crabbok has an analysis vid already.
March 9, 2019 at 4:51 am #1358758I saw this earlier and am ready to grab more than a few boxes of these!
We’re getting closer to a total Hoth proper battle table.
Now if only we didn’t have to wait six months before they ship.
March 9, 2019 at 4:58 am #1358759@templar007 – Is there anything missing, apart from an AT-AT, that would prevent a total Hoth battle table?
March 9, 2019 at 5:55 am #1358765sweet, now I just need to decide if I want to go full on Hoth, generic, or both…
March 9, 2019 at 6:05 am #1358766@hobbyhub – has FFG put out an official Rebel Gun Towers or a Shield Generator? I know other companies have them but not yet from FFG, (unless I missed something)
As for the Empire, when I first think of the AT-AT I wonder if it’s just too big for a standard Legion table. But if they did build one, it could then be altered a little and you’d have the walker from Rogue One. I’d love to see one, but I would use it on a larger table setup. (of course I love larger table setups any way)
Also, I have been thinking for a long time that FFG needs to make troop transports for landing Stormtrooper. I have something in mind for that that I’m kicking around for my battle tables.
March 9, 2019 at 6:29 am #1358767@templar007 – I had forgotten those two.
I did spot an AT-AT in a picture from CanCon, an Aussie tournament, that seemed to be made from mdf, but I can’t find a producer through a Google search.
March 9, 2019 at 6:37 am #1358768I wonder if it was this AT-AT free design for laser cutters. I’ve not seen any for sale but a lot of people have used this set of plans.
March 9, 2019 at 6:59 am #1358769It could have been Gerry, but if it was it was modified as the model I saw was the version from Rogue One that had an empty middle section.
March 9, 2019 at 7:15 am #1358783This drip-drip release of units by FFG is fine, but the absence of any public product roadmap or ‘army books’ makes it very difficult to plan any acquisition.
I guess they’re working on the fair assumption that “if we make it they will buy it! Plenty of it! Whether they need it or not.”
March 9, 2019 at 8:46 am #1358807One of the Vets is a Sullustan
March 9, 2019 at 8:54 am #1358808@templar007 .They have the 1.4 FD Laser Cannon out,but not the tower gun platform atm.I was going to get a couple of boxes of Snowtroopers and use the Galactic Marine paint scheme, but with this upcoming release,a few hundred points of Hoth themed armies might be a long term project.
March 9, 2019 at 2:01 pm #1358881@kantor72 – I do have a couple of the 1.4 FD’s but will grab some more if I’m going ahead with a larger than standard table. I’ll need to grab more of the E-WEB HEAVY BLASTER sets as well.
I already have several boxes of the Snow troopers and have the same idea as you to set some up as Galactic Marines.
On the subject of the AT-AT possibly being too big for the tables, if that is true then what is, if any, the purpose of the Snowspeeders? (I know that technically they’re not just for snow)
March 9, 2019 at 2:05 pm #1358885I think the speeders are there to counter the imperial speeder bikes. It’s a fast moving troop and they can use the harpoon to spin the AT-ST to prevent it shooting easily or to show it’s weaker rear armour.
I do think FFG will do something like a shield generator down the line, but when they do based on the downed AT-ST we’re probably looking at $100 minimum unless they only do a section.
there are some lovely MDF ones though so I’ll probably pick up one of those
March 9, 2019 at 2:41 pm #1358898@avernos – that AT-AT free design for Lazer Cutters is pretty cool! I don’t currently have a “Lazer” but see one in my future at sometime. (again I’m glad my wife doesn’t spend much time on this website to see this post) .?
In the meantime, I might download those files and try making a general print and tack that to some 1mm or 2mm heavy card stock or sheet plastic and cut them out with a scalpel.
What I didn’t see, (or maybe I read too fast and it didn’t register), was any mention of the scale.
Of course I could go the route of E-bay and buy the rare models/toys and rework them, (thus making the serious collectors cry), as OTT has already proven that some of those toys work well in scale. I already have a Slave One, A-Wing, and Tie Fighter in the 1/44 to 1/48 scale.
