Young Adventurer’s Guides Coming For D&D!
March 1, 2019 by brennon
Wizards Of The Coast are joining forces with Jim Zub, Stacy King and Andrew Wheeler to create a set of Young Adventurer's Guides which will help younger players get stuck into the fantastic world of Dungeons & Dragons.
Each of these books will be fully illustrated guides to Dungeons & Dragons. The first of these is Monsters & Creatures...
"Featuring amazing illustrations and expert insights on some of D&D’s most dangerous monsters, the guide shines a spotlight on the beasts that scare, excite, and cause trouble for adventurers, from creatures that live underground to those that dwell in the wilderness and boneyards or soar in the sky.
In these profiles, you will find information on the size of each monster, its danger level, and tips for how to survive an encounter. The perfect entry point for young fans of fantasy eager to become D&D adventurers, this book also features introductory “Encounter” stories so readers can practice the problem-solving skills they’ll need to fight these monsters when they play a D&D adventure of their own."
I think this is a fascinating idea for those that want to get more people into the game. I might even end up picking these up even though I know my Dungeons & Dragons! As well as Monsters & Creatures you'll also find Warriors & Weapons.
"In this illustrated guide, you’re transported to the legendary and magical worlds of Dungeons & Dragons, where you are presented with one-of-a-kind entries for different types of warriors, as well as the weaponry these fighters need for D&D adventuring.
This guide includes detailed illustrations of the weapons, armour, clothing, and other equipment that fighters use, and offers the tools young, aspiring adventurers need for learning how to build their own characters, including sample profiles, a flowchart to help you decide what type of warrior to be, and brainstorming challenges to start you thinking like an adventurer whether on your own or in the midst of an exciting quest with friends and fellow players."
Both of these new books will be available in July with two more books coming out in October this year too. These include Wizards & Spells...
"In this illustrated guide for new players, you’ll be transported to the mystic and magical worlds of Dungeons & Dragons and given a one-of-a-kind course on the wizards, sorcerers, and other magic-makers for which the game (and all of its iterations) is known.
Featuring direct and entertaining explanations of how spells are created and used in game, along with original illustrations and archival images of the game’s essential magical characters, this book shines a spotlight on the mystical side of D&D. The perfect jumping-on point for young fans of fantasy looking to give D&D a try, the book also features prompts to encourage creative problem-solving skills in the dangerous situations that you may find yourself in when on D&D adventures."
...and Dungeons & Tombs.
"Featuring maps, cutaway illustrations, and fun insights that show would-be adventurers how to travel and survive in these fantastical settings, along with original illustrations and archival images, the book shines a spotlight down the dark, foreboding corners of the most infamous locations in the worlds of D&D.
The perfect jumping-on point for young fans of fantasy looking to give D&D a try, the book also features prompts to encourage creative problem-solving skills in the dangerous situations you may find yourself in when on D&D adventures."
One of the big stumbling blocks for people jumping into Dungeons & Dragons, especially when they're younger, is the mountain of rules someone needs to learn. These might make things a little easier for them and hopefully spawn a whole new range of dungeon delving warriors and wizards.
Will you be checking these out?

This seems like really good idea from WotC.
Do they define what young is? What’s the age group this is aimed at?
Between the ages of 8 and 12 according to the website entries @darthcheese
Cheers Ben.
Is that 8-12 in age, or how young at heart? If the latter I expect they’ll be right up @warzan ‘s street on some days. ?
Good to see new books to get the fresh player intended.
I might by one or two of these for when my son is a little older. Not to mention read them myself.
These seem neat, I would like some more information on them before I decide to buy or not.
Are these directed at D&D 5+ (I still use 3.5!!) My son is just turned 9 and already plays Kings of War with me, Dreadball (whips me every time!) and Dungeon Saga. He has shown interest in D&D (based on DS experience) so these might be just what I’m looking for.
