2nd Edition Test Of Honour Landing Summer 2019
February 16, 2019 by brennon
Grey For Now Games is taking over control of Test Of Honour, the Samurai game previously stewarded by Warlord Games. The 2nd Edition of the game is now due out this Summer.
It looks like this new boxed set above isn't a Starter Set for the game but a quick and easy way to get people stuck into playing Test Of Honour with what they already own. That means dice, stat cards and game cards plus the new take on the rulebook as well.
Some new miniatures are on the way but the game will draw very much on what Samurai already exist on the market plus what you can get in metal from companies like Footsore Miniatures/War Banner.
Andy Hobday is still connected to the project creatively which is great to hear and it will be fun to see what gets upgraded from the first take on the game.
Will you be checking this out?

What’s the story here, behind the scenes? Why did it leave Warlord? Some kind of blood feude? If no one knows then I’m imagining a blood feude. Something really brutal.
To my understanding, Graham and Andy were the driving force behind Test of Honour, the new arrangement sounds like a good move (despite owning plenty of Warlord Games/Wargames Factory plastics there are so many nice metal and resin figures out there!!). I hope Warlord will continue to work with them in some capacity, the plastics were always a cheap and easy way in – be a shame to see them dry up. In all, I’m glad Graham’s taking his baby back – I just hope there’s a smooth transition and that Sarissa continues with it’s fantastic support of the game.
The Warlord plastics will still be there – Warlord sell them as armies & units for Pike & Shotte too, so they aren’t going way. Pretty sure it’s been said in the Facebook group that Sarissa will still be involved on the scenery side of things. I think it’s a safe bet that if & when they put out an all-in-the-box starter for 2nd Ed it will have Sarissa terrain in it rather than flat card scenery pieces.
Not sure why the split (other than Andy Hobday leaving Warlord to run War Banner). But I do think this is the best format to sell the rules.
I have a load of Perry Samurai, and had no interest in paying for a full starter set (with minis) and expansion boxes (with minis) that contain the cards needed to play.
Not sure if this ruleset contains ALL the cards, but if not I hope they choose to sell the cards on their own without needing to buy yet more minis 🙂
There’s no ‘split’ really – the game is still in the hands of the two guys that created it and got it onto our tables. I’m fairly certain its been said in the Facebook group that you will be able to get 2nd ed versions of cards without buying more minis. I agree that this box makes sense and look forward to seeing it happen.
Warbanner seem to be going from strength to strength at the moment, I thought they were taking this back in house. I wonder if Warbanner are just planning to provide a new miniatures range.
Having invested in this game just this year and the last month of last year, I almost panicked at reading the headline of this artical.
Here’s to hoping it continues strong and that I don’t have to relearn too many rules I just started getting used to.
I’ll probably pick this up even if I normally play Kensei. Seems like TOH has a larger following and thus would be easier to get a game.
I only painted enough to play the first and second scenario battles, but really enjoyed the game so far. I hope they don’t change too much and make the version 2 box a reasonable price. I think I have a good amount of play left in version 1 if I am left with too many doubts about version 2.
I for one am looking forward to the second edition. I am hoping that there will be some Clan specific straights.
I still have to play the first edition and I should probably get started on painting them as well.
