Eye Of The Beholder: The Art Of D&D Film Releasing May 10th, 2019

I love Dungeons & Dragons and so it's always cool to see people talking about the game and enjoying it. So, I will certainly be checking out Eye Of The Beholder: The Art Of Dungeons & Dragons when it releases on May 10th, 2019.
The film will be looking at those behind the art that brings these worlds to life. This means talking to artists, both past and present, about why they enjoy creating art for Dungeons & Dragons and of course playing it too.
You'll meet famous faces like Larry Elmore, Jeff Easley, Clyde Caldwell, Brom, Tony DiTerlizzi, Todd Lockwood, Erol Otus, and many more.
It will be available on a variety of different platforms later on this year including iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, Dish, Vimeo, and Xbox.
I loved flicking through Art & Arcana and this new film/documentary looks like it'll be a great watch.

D&D has some awesome art and I have several books including Art & Arcana (never figured out why kindle version costs more than the hardcover on Amazon… but I prefer books anyway). Dragon Magazine and it’s sister Dungeon (in the olden days when they were physical products) had some inspiring artwork too… sometimes just the cover of the magazine was enough to inspire an adventure. To me the iconic image of D&D is from 1st edition players handbook – the black and white ‘Paladin in Hell’.

It’s a film, but there is a book called Art & Arcana chap.

I always thought that some of the art from Art & Arcana could be used to make an interesting adult coloring book. Will definately look at this but I know it is one of those things where I will be more excited to watch this than anyone else in my family 🙁
Dnd art has always been a bit hit or miss for me… So much cool stuff mixed up with naff bad ideas that should have been vetoed by a good editor. It doesn’t matter how great the art is, an owl bear or a gelatinous cube is never going to be believable. ( I even think giant floating eyeballs are pretty silly, but I know I’m probably in the minority on that one 🙂 )
D & D has had some great art over the years.
