Late War British Tackle The Axis From Empress Miniatures
January 30, 2019 by brennon
Empress Miniatures has put out three new sets of Late War British soldiers wearing leather jerkins, camo suits and assault helmets. A great option for those looking to indulge in some operations behind enemy lines.
The announcement mentions that these three new sets are good for Late War.
As with all of the Empress Miniatures collection they are very finely detailed metal miniatures giving you a great canvas to work from when it comes to painting. You've also got them in a variety of different stances too with some firing, running and standing guard.
There are even some bringing some big guns to the party with machine guns at the ready to suppress the enemy.
This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what Empress Miniatures has to offer and if you're looking for some alternative miniatures to bulk out a World War II force, or for that matter, a wide range of time periods, you have a plethora of options.
What do you make of these new British soldiers?

Nope, looks like they are wearing the Type III “Turtle” Helmet. That means they are only usable for the last months of WW2. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mk_III_helmet Also with the leather Jerkin and “over-trousers”, this typically means late war kit (as the British troops got better equipped after D-Day. I wouldn’t try to use them for early or mid war (although if you go to the Empress site they do have “inter-war” British troops that might do for the BEF (can’t see any images, so can’t confirm). But these are DEFINATELY late war (which ties them in with the US and German releases),… Read more »
Interesting – good to have that cleared up. Was wondering why it was suggested they could work for other periods of the war.
It’s a easy mistake. Empress also released a few new sets for their early war troops, at the same time they released these figs.
Most like the disruption got confused.
Still nice to see these come out (many manufacturers stick with the MK II “Brodie” helmet to cover the whole of WWII rather than filling this niche period in British uniforms). The Leather jerkins were usually issued to the support troops who did a lot of manual handling (Artillery, Dispatch Riders, Engineers), but soon became a sought after item by the infantryman to weather the winter in 44/45 (many a “trade” was made), but weren’t usually issued to the front line infantryman.
In fact pretty much limited to Europe during the winter of 44/45… And those in camo suits limited to the 52nd Lowland Division.
The No5 SMLE limits them, as does the Turtle helmet.
And here I was going to use them for Canadians in the low countries.
At least the guys in leather jerkins will still work.
@brennon must admit I Immediately though Korea, plus you can use Centurions!
Had the same thought.
Those are really good.
Nice can they be used for Korean battles. ?
I know when I pick up some they might make their way into Korea. Also for some modern post war imaga-nation and some desseal-punk sci-fi games.
They would be perfect for konflict 47 timeline
I wonder if they would also work for post war and 1950s operations like the Suez Cruises, Greek Civil War, Crete… Etc.
