Remorhaz by chaosgorka

chaosgorka continually impresses me but I would have missed this one if it hadn't been for Lance this week. He showed me chaosgorka's project blog for his Dungeons & Dragons creations and this Remorhaz jumped out at me immediately!

Featuring a beautifully painted blue carapace here, this monstrous insect is looking like something you'd want to try and avoid in the depths of a dungeon. The blue has been handled really nicely and it is framed by the ice white of the base.

Combine this with the touches of bright orange on the back of the creature and you have on that would catch the eye of anyone who was sitting down at the table. Painting D&D monsters is one of the great joys of the hobby as you always have something fun to work on and you can just do it on an encounter-by-encounter basis!

There is an added surprise with this Remorhaz however when you turn the lights off and bring a black light into the mix...

Imagine those orange and yellow barbs coming towards you in the darkness, the slithering and chittering sound of their host the only thing echoing through the tight passageways beneath the earth.

I am getting shudders just thinking about it now!

Forsaker Pin-Up by baronvonuppercase

Next up we're looking to the work of baronvonuppercase who has been tinkering away on some of the miniatures from the Kingdom Death pin-up collection. Again, I tip my hat to Lance for this pick for today as he noticed this on the Activity page uploaded to her profile.

The Forsaker here has been captured beautifully with her warm skin contrasting nicely against the pale blue/black of her armour. You could imagine her being part of an anime/manga and just leaping off the page.

A doffed cap should go to the work on the face especially which has been painted very nicely indeed, picking out the needed details without going too overboard. I can't paint faces to save my life so anyone who can make them stand out like that with a bit of subtle shading should be applauded.

I also love the weapon here too! I think it features plenty of menace and feels like a relic dredged up from the darkest corners of the world.

Colossal Skeleton by maledrakh

Last but not least we're turning out attention to the work by maledrakh that we picked up on last week. Here we have his work on the Colossal Skeleton from Reaper Bones.

The Reaper Bones material is a lot softer than its counterparts and you wouldn't be able to tell at a glance that this was made of that. I think maledrakh has managed to capture all of the gritty detail of this model really nicely and done for a colour of bone that matches its backstory.

No doubt a necromancer has brought this beast to life and used all sorts of bones to make it battle-worthy. You can see a nice contrast between the old bones of the creature and the club its holding too, a touch which breaks up 'bone' but doesn't look out of place.

The ribcage at the back is where I started to focus when looking at this miniature. I think that shows off just how technically adept the painting is for this creature. It might be a lot of washes and drybrushing for example, but it does the job very nicely indeed!

The base also gets a massive thumbs up from me as you could imagine this rampaging through some poor township which has caught the ire of the resident necromancer.

Overall, a superb piece!
