Starfinder based on D&D but it’s not exactly the same. The 5E Players Handbook cannot be used to play a sci-fi game, that’s what I meant when I said D&D won’t be being used for sci-fi any time soon. Mechanically the D20 system used in D&D 3.5 and Pathfinder could be used for any setting you could care to mention, as Star Finder shows (and D20 Modern, in its time), but the D&D Rulebook cannot. That’s not unique to D&D, there’s no one size fits all rulebook from Modiphius either, each setting has its own core book that has stuff in it to support the setting – mostly different character creation elements and weapons.
