Hi guys. The lighting is awesome totally love the background lighting man.
I suspect the show will be called “John : after dark” or possibly “John’s cave” 😉
Loved the idea for the new show as I always pick up a new technique here and there from any project building series. I also liked the lighting and camera angles. Will the show be broken up into segment and any idea how long the segments will be? Looking forward to the new year and the new content.
the aim is to have each show in a single episode of about 45mins to 1 hr
Sounds like an interesting new show… Look forward to learning more stuff… So does this mean the end of John’s Live streams?
nope live builds etc will take place on Friday afternoons 🙂
Excellent 🙂 must make sure I don’t have too many meetings scheduled for Friday afternoons ?
Could you get another camera and lights, I want to peep over John’s shoulder. Please don’t light his future bald patch.
John could also start this build with a nippers, emery board & paper hangers knife only, to show newbies how to start.
yeah that could be an option
So, basically @warzan wants a A-10 Warthog land raider….
Sounds like fun. Can’t wait to see what you guys come up with. I like the idea of the builds and follow alongs. Would like to see more game campaigns as well. More things like your Kingdom Death game.
Love the idea of this! Anything where I can hobby along is great 😀
Love all the Vlogs recently really makes you feel part of what is going on. Very excited to see some start to finish projects that potentially we could follow along with.
Thank god there is a weekender this week else I would have been lost.
ok, ok i realize you have lives outside of BOW i wont ask in the forums if i have missed an announcement or if you have won the irish lottery ever again lol i have learnt my lesson, tiz only i and wargamer dog that have the freedom of gaming 365 days a year with no family ties we are simply people of routine. In my defense though you shouldn’t be so good at what you do, that we/i want and demand more, its basically your own fault. Like any good lab rat i have been conditioned over many weekends… Read more »
@warzan you meant DAKKA DAKKA DAKKA DAKKA DAKKA DAKKA DAKKA 😉
“we have the tools and the box” …. and they are not afraid to use it… GODS HAVE MERCY ON US ALL.
Also: Where’s the weekender? 😉 #scnr
” we will definitely have a weekender” famous last words? Ok, video is over I’m of to bed XD
Riiight. Warren touching wood talking about John’s “relaxation spot” uh huh… lit up with new camera angles to get the most intimate detail all in HD. Well, I guess the thing that relaxes Warren the most is to get more dakka. As a belated Orktober gift here’s all sorts of dakka.
With the power of madness I will help turn this project up to 11!

Cool idea for a show.
Can we hope to finally get something going for Ste. Nazaire?
I mean it can’t compete with 40K … 😐 😐 😐 😐
@oriskany land or sea or are you being adventurous and both?
Actually very possible in 1/300th with Cruel Seas though would need lots of Fairmile B’s.
@bobcockayne – Just a project that’s been “on the books” so to speak since March 2017, the 75th Anniversary of the raid. We were looking at miniatures (I think the team even has a 1/250 HMS Campbelltown somewhere), then when we started to realize how big the Normandie dock would have to be, we started talking either Hex & Counters or zone-based board game.
If they were to ever build that Campbelltown or the Normandie Dock, just seemed like the kind of thing that would be a perfect fir for this great new show. 😀
1/250th Would be close enough plus being a big overscale would help with 1/300th figs.
Would be interesting read a lot on it and Jeremy Clarkson (Top Gear)(did a very good Documentary on it.
I have a copy, me thins will have to re-watch.
I might be off on that scale a little. But as far as the historical research, that was all done and dusted. The project stalled in the “implementation” phase. 😀
Oriskany 1/350th at a guess, think warlord have one, they have a pic in the new Cruel Seas rules. Funnily enough it was a project out club group thought about in 1/600th using the old Skytrex/ SDD ranges, infantry would poss have been a problem but at that scale Peter Pig ACW skirmishers would have probably done plus not sure how many tanks if any the Germans used in the action, Strangely enough don’t remember them being mentioned in any reports I read but you may no differently if you did the research. Our project fell through on the grounds… Read more »
@oriskany Doesnt give a blow by blow description but Clarkson Documentary does give a good
Impression of the audacity of Raid on St Nazaire
found it on U-tube

Thanks, @bobcockayne – we had all the historical research more or less nailed down, It was the wargame design format we couldn’t quite get nailed down. I’m still tempted one of these days to just break down and run it myself in Valor & Victory. It would be a big game in that system, but definitely doable.
I was pretty sure you had, vid link was more for interest than anything, one of the best things Clarkson did.
A plastic tank, some clamps and an angle grinder. What could go wrong?
@warzan presents:
‘The OTT Boys Go Grinding’
WTF its Duracell warzan.
“we’re doing a show where we create stuff”. Sold! I cannot wait, I love this sort of thing.
Boy I’m ready for this show! I’ve been missing the Hobby Lab type stuff for some time now. It was always so much fun. What are they making next? Will they use bog-roll centers this time or bean tins? Will power tools be risked or will Lloyd decide to keep all his digits for another week? All joking aside, Hobby Lab was what pushed me to the decision to join Backstage and I’ve never regretted it since! PS I believe that I have the largest collection of bog-roll centers in my region! My wife questions my sanity but I remind… Read more »
Really excited for the new show – looking great!!
John labors, Lance vogues.
This might be interesting. A lengthy show to keep me company when I paint and build I hope. Good luck and enjoy your cables there Justin.
like the new lay out and lighting.
would love to see more hobby lab content back too!
Do we also get to see the land raider in action when it’s done?
Someone turned the production value up to 11! Looks great guys!
I’m really liking the new camera settings and lighting.
@warzan I believe John already feels like hes doing penance..
