Berserkers & Raiders Join Warlord Viking Warbands
January 5, 2019 by brennon
Warlord Games has added some additional miniatures to their roster for those looking to build Viking warbands in games like Hail Caesar. The first set is a set of Viking Ulfhednar.
The Ulfhednar are your berserkers of legend that will be rushing forward alongside your force to smash through the enemy lines and cause havoc before dying themselves. Everytime we see these berserkers we're drawn back to that moment at Stamford Bridge where one lone Viking was able to hold off the entire Saxon army before being unceremoniously tickled from beneath.
As well as these angry fellows there's also a set of Viking Raiders who have been gathering up the spoils of war.
Each of these warriors is either carousing and enjoying some of their plunder, or running off with it back to their ships. You could use these to show when some of your men have gone from their fighting status through to that of a raider and plunderer, making them prime targets for your angry enemy.
What kind of scenarios would you throw this lot into?
"Each of these warriors is either carousing and enjoying some of their plunder, or running off with it back to their ships..."

Those look good.
That’s not what Berserkers were though. Berserkers were the personal champions of chiefs and nobles in Norse society who went and fought the honour bouts for their masters, mostly well armed, armored and paid. The ‘legends’ of crazed naked guys with the occasional bear pelt are pure and utter fantasy. A shame such things get into historical games.
It’s very annoying.
Imagine if all the Viking minis minis had giant horned helmets and massive double headed axes, that’s how accurate these minis are.
As a fun unit to just Chuck into an army no problem but there should be some kind of “NOT HISTORICALLY ACCURATE” in the product description.

Brilliant.
