As always we'd love to hear your thoughts and more on everything we're talking about today in the comments below!
Updates - Essen Prize Winners Announced!
We've now announced all of the winners from our Essen 2018 Prize Draw. Go and see if you won over on the Prize Claim Centre that we've set up and make sure to get in contact in order to win your goodies.
Additionally, we've also had moji from the community giving us a proper history lesson on 2000AD and it's time on the tabletop. You can check out both Part One and Part Two which give us an in-depth look at this comic book universe.
Forge World; Time To Change?
We all know that Forge World serves as a great way to provide alternatives for your forces in Warhammer 40,000 and such but is it time that some of the Forge World line-up became available in plastic?
With the release of The Hobbit book for the Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game Sam wishes that a lot of the miniatures they've designed would be transferred into plastic so that people could play the armies without the massive cost attached!
We postulate how this might then become the norm for the Horus Heresy and perhaps some of the existing accessories available for Warhammer 40,000 and Age Of Sigmar too. We'd love to see more plastic options available for the likes of the Astra Militarum & Adeptus Astartes!

We take some time to go through the news from this week...

Let the Weekend begin!
Ahh its the Weekend.
Happy Weekend
@templar007 and @rasmus – glad to see I’m not the only one up way too late tonight. All Combat Phase finished for Darkstar, now finishing Resolution Phase. Sometimes this weekend I should be able to start Scenario Guidelines, Scoring, Tips, and Designer’s Notes …
Dare I say it … is there light at the end of the tunnel?
Oooh Scenario Guidelines!
The pairing of those two words sets off visions in my head of battles forming in space. With both sides uttering a murrmured pray followed by checklists of “GO — No GO”.
Silence falls as the last check is made. A ship captain waits for the signal and reviews in the mind the Commander’s intent.
The BATTLE COMMENCES…………..
Thanks again for sharing your game with us @oriskany
GENERAL QUARTERS, GENERAL QUARTERS!
ALL HANDS TO ACTION STATIONS!
SET CONDITION ONE THROUGHOUT THE SHIP.
THIS IS THE CAPTAIN.
THIS IS NOT AN EXERCISE.
The honor is all mine, @templar007.
We have a live game scheduled on-line tomorrow (Sunday) at 12 Noon EST (17:00 GMT)
If you’re interested in seeing Darkstar actually in play, ping me a PM with your e-mail address and I can send a web conference link.
A core set in plastic is the way forward but it’s already begun I think where just seeing it via the specialist games first , though would move a plastic full size warhound…..
Before Forge world goes mainstream maybe first they could release rules for using there Mechanicum stuff for 40K first, three years after saying they would. Just a thought.
Finally, the weekend.
@avernos, Just in case you missed it, FFG announced generic commanders for SW Legion back in October.
Details are here https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2018/10/9/specialize-your-army/
I’d completely forgotten about them, I suppose because months later they’re still on preorder and not available to use yet. Gah! it feels like the release schedule is moving at a snail’s pace
Not hard to do, funnily enough @warzan had a bad feeling about SWL and their reliance on outside suppliers in the discussion on whether it would become as big as 40k and worried about the release shedule, add that to GW’s current mass releases and he is sounding like a profit again.
FFG announces the upcoming releases too early in my opinion. I get all excited about new releases, the forget about them for couple of months and only might pick them up if I notice them on the hobby store shelf. I wonder if this is a practise they’ve just copied over from the board game side or do they need to optimise the supply chain with the early pre-orders?
A plastic space marine Thunderhawk would be nice.
Nah, plastic Stormbird, and not the baby one they currently do in resin, the proper ones from the HH novels.
?
reset the clock!
The imperial armour books are amazing. Forge world should be left to be more independent from GW because they were doing it right
Some friends who by forgeworld is they buy stuff and have to spend hours putting it together and if you ring them all they recommend is using some green stuff to fill in joints etc. I would have thought if you spend the sort of money that forgeworld charges it would go together first time.
It a bit like going to IKEA and buying a table only to find it doesn’t go together and being told you’ll need to plane and chisel some of the legs and use some wood putty to make it usable as a table
same with any resin models, there is always going to be some work required to get them tip top. It is unfortunately the trade off for the detail level you can get.
I must be a jammy git, never had any problems but then I’ve never brought any of the big Kits.
Cant afford the mortgage.
It’s the Weekend!!
Only two more then I get a decent break…
I hear that!
I’m taking off from the Friday before Christmas to the day after New Year’s Day.
Most to time off I’ve had in nearly four years!
Hellboy Xmas…pah
What we need is Warlord to do the DR and Quinch Xmas figures that Alan Grant did as a two page wraparound in an early 2000AD
I’d buy that for a dollar!
Super awesome morning to you all from here on the south coast UK – the weekender has arrived – amazing prizes as always from super awesome peeps 🙂
Talking to Peter Denis on Facebook he is planning fantasy figures in the near future
WoW! Facebook is rolling out some powerful features. I looked up Peter Dennis and got…….
The Vice-Admiral Sir Peter Denis, 1st Baronet (1713 – 11 June 1778) was an English naval officer and Member of Parliament.
Sorry just had to share……please continue. ?
Great show as always. On Forgeworld models being mainstream, I am happy that low production models are in the range for 40k, however those models need to be in the mainstream codexes, rather than Forgeworld ones. I know it a monetary thing for GW, but it a pain whether playing games as you have books all over the place when checking stats etc during game play.
Thanks for the Weekender guys!
And, Happy Birthday!
Cheers!
Saturday is weekender time!
I don’t think it’s time for Forgeworld to go mainstream because the whole point of it is that it isn’t mainstream. It plays an important role for people who want to customise and bespoke their armies, and play in a non-mainstream space. For this reason i think it also plays a very important role for GW in retaining their share of our wallets as we mature in the hobby and, lets face it, get older with more disposable income. We want something unique to show for our hobby efforts and are prepared to pay to get a more niche product.… Read more »
I’m still surprised that FFG haven’t gone to the best resource for Rebel & Imperial troops, the old Rebel SpecForce Sourcebook – Different regiments of the Rebels SpecForce, and the infantry forces of the Imperial Navy, Imperial Army, and a hugerange of different Stormtrooper Legions (Rad Troopers, Sand Troopers, Sea Troopers, Storm Commandos, to name a few)
I need to look for this book!
Thanks @dawfydd
No worries. The full title is Rules of Engagement:The Rebel SpecForce Handbook.
If you can’t find a copy let me know as I have digital copy in my archive 🙂
Happy weekend peeps… looks like I shall be reviving the Dropbeasts team in the new year… especially as Milton Keynes is really close for me to get too @rasmus you Up for returning to your old stomping ground?
@commodorerob I’ll be there for sure! Well, unless there’s another snap general election at the same time…
Excellent although the way things are going with Brexit… You never can tell.
The lack of troop choices is one of the reasons why I haven’t jumped into Star Wars Legions. I’m liking what they’ve done so far with the range but before I jump in I want to see more variation.
Same here.
Enbiggened, now there’s a word. Looks like you’ve been enbiggened @avernos, when put across from @dracs ???
https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/embiggen
A perfectly crummulant word.
we use it all the time, round our way.
He’s a grower, not a show-er.
XD
Happy Saturday! Keep FW out of GW thanks 🙂 Their entire purpose was to create a boutique-style within the GW universes, and create content that was effectively gaming in the gaps (I know how Warren loves his gap-gaming). For those who want a “supported but not mainstream” army, FW offer a great way to do this. In terms of Middle Earth, as Gerry said, it has to be financially viable to move it to plastic so until it reaches a tipping point with the potential to make the cash back it won’t move to plastics. @brennon – FW have restated… Read more »
That’s some good info!
I’m glad it’s staying as it’s own ‘AoD 1st Ed’ rule set.
I’ve been toying with doing a HH age army, of course it will be my beloved ‘Imperial Fists’ if I pull the trigger.
I have no love for the current hard push to update to ‘primaris’ models in 8th Ed’on
@olliep & @brennon some point over the last year or so, GW posted videos of some talks that had taken place at one of their event weekends – probably a HH weekend. In the video(s) they talked about what they were planning and what they were doing and where this stuff fitted into the HH timeline. They referred to a chart which had different ages across the top / different phases of the war, and then rows of different parts of the war – so one referring to stuff in the east, one which had Prospero on it, etc. Do… Read more »

@olliep – THANK YOU! That’s exactly what I was looking for!
This will help me organise my reading and my note-taking a great deal! And to work out how to paint my new Titans i.e. once I can work out where they fought, etc.
Thanks again!
I’d love to see some of the Droptroop guard come out in plastic. The current IG range does nothing for me.
try painting them as wehrmacht that’s what I’m doing and they look great. Using SS camo schemes for the elites really ties them all together ^^
Painting Splinter Camo or any of the other SS camo’s would send me oever the edge. But Field Grey is the way!
Oak leaf is remarkably easy to paint especially with a tooth pick. ?
Be interested to see some pic or you sneaking them into a weekender.
Great show, happy weekend, where’s Warren? Sorry, just rambling…..
