So while the Mrs was watching celebrities titting about on ice then that show about being pregnant in the 60s I set up my wee table and cracked on with my Dark Angels tactical squad.

It’s now official, I’m getting old. I bought an optivisor a few years back but never needed it, until now. How in the name of all that is sacred did I ever used to paint eyes? And tonight I was only doing lenses on Space Marine helmets…..definitely going to have to dig the optivisor out, just promise not to laugh at me if you ever see me with them on.

Anyway just the basing and vanishing to do on these guys and I’m calling them done.

Just noticed I have the skin on the Sgt to finish too. Basing stuff and varnish and airbrush are all in my work residence so it may be a day or two before I can get the last steps completed.

Also have decided to leave this for a while as I now have 2 other projects I’m champing at the bit to get going. I’ll just leave by saying, “No request for aid shall be denied.” And, “Humanity has always looked to the stars for enlightenment.”

Oops.

So after building a hobby table so I could paint in front of the telly. I managed to get a bit done on Tuesday then sat tonight to get some more done. I managed to get from this.

Oops.

To this…..

Oops.

However I had to go via this step.

Oops.

So would of probably gotten more done but had a bit of cleaning up to do.

Just some detailing and some shading and highlighting and then the squad will be ready for the table top.

Slow going.

Very aware that I haven’t moved forward with this I thought I needed to get something done.

I’m between 2 houses at the moment so haven’t really got a dedicated hobby area yet but managed to set up a table in front of the TV and got the rest of the figures assembled.

By far my favourite in the sethas to be this Hellbrute.

Slow going.

Such a dynamic pose compared to what I’ve seen from the multi-part set. Looking forwards to getting paint on this.

Found them!

I was a bit miffed about not finding the bases that went with this pile of sprues I found yesterday so went back today and delved deeper into the garage and success! More than I expected I actually found the box the 6th Edition starter came in alongside all the figures removed from the sprues and the bases. I was a bit sad I had found the templates knowing they had been retired from the game.

Amongst it all was this.

Found them!

The part painted Dark Angel tactical marines I had originally been looking for. Now I just have to recall what paints I had been using 6 years ago…….

The smell of plastic.

Like a lot of veteran players I quit GW and their “hobby” after many a happy year playing both 40K and WFB. 6th Ed.40K had just been launched and I was in possesion of the Ltd. edition Dark Vengeance starter set complete with the extra Interrogator Chaplain. I had even started to paint the keepers of Lion El’Johnsons secrets.

Then the purge happened. Painted armies sold off complete and piecemeal on eBay, stuff dropped into storage boxes to sit unloved in the garage until a 2nd round of selling got rid of everything.

Beasts of War then opened On Table Top as a store and members venue and I got up close and personal with the “plastic crack” again and my juices began to flow. My 5yo son (It’s his, honest.) came home with the getting started in 40K book/magazine thing and I assembled the attached Space Marine. That night found me browsing the GW website and the next day I was ordering the beginnings of a new army via the Pro-Store at On Table Top. (That will be another project.)

Then my memory started to work, I still had some figures in the garage, at least a dirty Vindicator resplendant in BlackTemplar colours black and wasn’t there some part painted Dark Angel tactical marines as well? So armed with a torch and a sense of adventure (If you’ve seen my garage you would agree on the latter.) I set about recovering the lost band of battle brothers. But alas they couldn’t be retrieved…..but what’s this, a load of sprues with a lot of bits still attached? Can it be? Turns out I didn’t quite sell everything and have the contents of the box set minus the cultists and tactical marines. No bases though but that can be sorted. I now have something to paint while waiting for my recent purchases to arrive and for those of you that are piqued by my rambling you will have to wait until my next post to see what I’m going to be painting. (Spoiler. Terminators.)
