Radical Redesign
I decided that I wanted to show as many of the weapons as possible on the Ships at least at the Heavy Cruiser and higher level. After Designing a turret for the Iron Duke it needed to be radically redesigned to actually fit them. still working on the lasers, auto cannons and torpedoes hopefully it will all fit. 3D Model completed all weapons are sub parts then assembled in software, got things to barely fit, the 45mm Auto-cannon’s are rather large however are the minimum size that I can 3D print. I completed two designs for lasers, ones that pay homage to the Original drawing and the ones displayed on the model which are round emitter like.

Weapons have been printed, nearly lost one of the lasers already. The Hull is currently printing to be assembled in the morning. Hull completed and assembled surprisingly no glue required for the low guns so the can be rotated. the forward laser is the only part glued down and the conning tower blocks it from fitting into the hole.
Now THIS is awesome! Holy hell, @bloodstrike , this must be taking forever, but I absolutely love the 10 GW rail gun turrets, fore and aft (broadside configuration) torpedo tubes, shield projectors, mass driver arrays. laster emitters, this is great!

thanks, @oriskany. updated the entry with the 3D print completed. it did take nearly 30 minutes to put together with tweezers and had to reprint one of the forward auto-cannons as it took a trip across the room and was never found. Hopefully going backwards tweaking everything to have weapon mounts not sure how small i can manage to get everything as the Frigate’s are only 1″ long
The scales sound about right, @bloodstrike . We specifically left OUT any references to length, widths, or other dimensions because such parameters, combined with mass (which IS required) would suggest some kind of shape, which I didn’t want so people could imagine their own. But assuming 1.5 inch hexes, ships up to 2″ long (as with your heavy cruiser) and 1″ frigates sound right. I don’t know if I would try or “insist” on getting every barrel of every weapon, especially on the mass drivers which honestly might be some kind of gatling or multi-barrel weapona ll in one housing.… Read more »
just spent some time scanning over a bunch of your older posts and it looks like the smaller ships at least do have smaller amounts of weapons for the most part. mass drivers are definitely going to have to disappear or become a bump on the model for what I’m dealing with here on anything smaller then this, I am currently scratching my head on how to represent the insane number of weapon types that exist. also for scaling i’ll have to scan and upload my worksheet so far I have battleships and fleet carriers at 2.75″ long although nothing… Read more »
OMG!!!!!!!!! I WANT ONE!!!!!! Yes I know all caps is rude and counts as shputing, but I am shouting. These came out great!!!
FYI I do plan on uploading the STL files for stuff soon, this is the nearest to completion just needs the magnet hole in the bottom at this point. there is a massive symmetry error that hopefully wont cause other people problems when printing.
