Games Workshop Assemble New Battleforces For 40K & Age Of Sigmar
November 26, 2018 by brennon
Games Workshop has been working on some ways to get you into both Warhammer 40,000 and Age Of Sigmar with ten new Battleforce Sets which will be available to pre-order from this coming weekend. We'll start with Warhammer 40,000...
Space Marines
Imperial Fists
Necrons
Death Guard
Aeldari Craftworlds
Adeptus Mechanicus
I really like the design of the Aeldari Craftworlds set which comes with enough options to look at creating a variety of different Craftworlds. The unit choices offer up some neat chances to expand it either towards the four main subsections of the Aeldari or something of your own design.
The same goes for the Space Marine force which could be used to focus in on whatever faction takes your fancy. I prefer the Dreadnought from the Imperial Fist set though.
Age Of Sigmar
As well as these Battleforce Sets for Warhammer 40,000 they have also created a few new sets for Age Of Sigmar.
Slaves To Darkness
Seraphon
Idoneth Deepkin
Daughters Of Khaine
Of the sets here I think I'd either have to go for the Slaves To Darkness set which would be a good foundation for a Chaos force or the Idoneth Deepkin with their interesting and diverse creatures thrown into the mix too.
As is always the way with these sets from Games Workshop they do offer you a saving on buying the units individually but I always think dumping a massive amount of plastic in front of someone CAN be a bad thing sometimes. I think it's sometimes more achievable to do it from a slow start and build up for a lot of people.
An Unexpected Journey
You will also be able to pick up a new set for playing out adventures in Middle-earth too with a new separate set for Thorin Oakenshield & Company.
This was the plastic set that was available as part of the Escape From Goblin Town Starter Set when The Hobbit was launched and it's nice to see them back on the tabletop. It was a fun kit to paint up and I really enjoyed playing out the scenarios from that book too.
If this era of Middle-earth gaming is more your style this would be a good set to pick up. I'm still wavering around buying The Fellowship myself just to paint up as a little project!
What do you think of the new Battleforces coming your way?

Great boxes for new player’s or reinforcements.
It’s funny that two of those 40k ones are just more Primaris Marines but Imperial Fists one has less value than Ultramarines one. But i am happy that there is going to be Death Guard one because it makes starting them easier.
Death Guard are really tempting, but I’m if I have the time to really give them at the moment
oooh … that Eldar force.
I wished they had Aspect Warriors that aren’t Dire Avengers, but then those are the only plastic ones they’ve got (right?) 🙁
Sadly yes. I wish GW would make plastic kits for rest of Aspect Warriors because those are important to part of most Eldar armies. At end of day Xenos armies tend to get less than Imperium and Chaos.
Orcs got 6 new spiffy vehicles. The Genestealer cult is getting new toys too.
I can’t recall anything the Eldar got since 8th launched (except perhaps the eldar ranger in the 40k Quest game).
