Back on the Gangs of Rome vibe and I’m painting four new fighters for it. I thought that it would be good to show how I paint various skin tones and I’m starting with doing Mediterranean skin tone.

Mediterranean/Southern European Skin

So I started with painting the base dark colour of Vallejo Model Colour Chocolate Brown and then added Vallejo Model Colour US Tan Earth as the next layer painting over the Chocolate Brown leaving the dark recesses. Then I painted the midtone, Vallejo Model Colour Medium Fleshtone, again painting the raised areas as highlights but leave some of the previous colours there to create shadows. Next I washed Vallejo Model Colour Burnt Cadmium Red over the Model to add a warmth to the shadows.

Then t started the highlighting or the raised areas starting with Vallejo Model Colour Medium Fleshtone and then Vallejo Dark Flesh to the high areas and finally add Vallejo Model Colour Basic Skintone as the highest highlights.

I add Vallejo Game Colour Tan for the lips on top of Vallejo Model Colour Burnt Cadmium Red.

Bronzed/Weathered/Northern European Skin

I started with a base coat of Vallejo Model Colour Flat Brown and then painted Vallejo Model Colour Flat Earth on top leaving the base coat to show is the dark recesses. Next a painted Vallejo Model Colour Orange Brown as the midtone and the washed Vallejo Model Colour Burnt Cadmium Red to add warmth to the shadows.

Then I highlighted the figure with Vallejo Model Colour Orange Brown on the raised areas then Vallejo Model Colour Cork Brown and Vallejo Model Colour Iraqui Sand on the highest areas.

I started with a base coat with Vallejo Model Colour German Camo Black Brown and then painted a coat of Vallejo Model Colour Chocolate Brown again making sure the base colour with left in the recesses.

Then I added a 50:50 mix of Vallejo Model Colour Chocolate Brown and US Tan Earth and then washed the skin using Vallejo Model Colour German Camo Black Brown.

After this a highlighted the figure first using the 50:50 mix and then Vallejo Model Colour US Tan Earth and a final highlight of Vallejo Model Colour Cork Brown.
