More Shatterpoint
These are the rest of the minis from Shatterpoint, these and the previous ones are all painted using the videos from Sorastro fine guides:

However I used two thin coats paints rather the scale 75 ones he was using.
Getting some Shatterpoint done
I have had the Shatterpoint minis from the starter set sitting on a shelf since last year when painted the terrain. I also had a couple of the legion version of the figures sitting around as well so I thought I would paint those along side these.
I quite enjoyed the larger scale and because there are so few taking a bit of extra time with them. These are the first batch complete the rest are nearly done so I will try and them up later this week.
Clan Wren
My last star wars minis for while as I wanted to get started on a spring cleaning project. The freehand was a pain but I got to it to something I was happy with.
The grey armour is Dawnstone, with dark sea grey highlight and the dark grey being eshin grey. The under suit is cloudburst blue over a zenith prime. Finally the yellow is yellow flame from two thin coats range, I was very impressed with the coverage for a yellow only needing a single coat (odd given the name of the range) over the grey worked well.
Barricades and Wookies
I realised that I had quite a few core sets and hadnt painted any of the barricades from them so using this video as a guide I set to work.
The wookies are pretty much all contrast as are the rebel upgrade pack.
Operative Vader & co
I’ve managed to get Operative Vader done this week, still not totally happy with the OSL on that as it looks odd from certain directions.
Then there is the inferno squad (who all seem very small next to vader). I have opted for red patches on their shoulders as the art work has the imperial symbol on there and I am not freehanding that!
Lastly the BX Commando droids who were all contrast (Basilicanum Grey over grey seer and Black Templar for the weapons).
More Stormtroopers
I had a squad of stormtroopers and a stormtrooper upgrade box primed so I thought I should finish those off. I also made some stands from acrylic rod for the BARC speeders and finished off their bases.
The stormtrooper bases are:
- Vallejo brown earth paste
- Vallejo sepia wash
- Army Painter black battleground in patches
- Black rim
The Clone bases are:
- Army Painter battlefield rocks (for the larger pieces)
- Army Painter brown battleground
- Painted brown umber (paint from a tube)
- Dry brushed grey
- Dry brushed Zandri dust
- Army Painter Frozen tuffs
- Uniform grey rim
Luke & some Speeders
I seem to have misplaced the clear stands for the speeders and strangely one of the heads for the gunners on the side cars. I’m sure they’ll turn up at some point.
These still need basing but I’ll sort that out once the stands turn up.
General Grievous & Obi-Wan
Finally got these done following Sorastro’s wonderful videos. I’ll have to work out the basing for Obi-Wan as I didn’t right it down when I did the clones.
Next up some BARC speeders and operative Luke
Hobby pledge progress
I thought I had better make some progress on one of my hobby pledges for this year. The Droidekas had been done for a while just needed their bases tidied up and the rim painted (and in two cases glued back together).
I had 4 squads of droids and 2 unit upgrades which had been assembled and primed ages ago but never got any further. The are painted with contrast following Sorastro’s excellent video
https://youtu.be/Out0dFIF9do
I’ve given them shoulder colours so I identify the units.
Attack of the Clones
I have been working on these for a while, I tried to make them a dirtier rough looking than the pristine white of the stormtroopers. My plan is to have a much cleaner Phase 2 clone squad at some point. The colours on the arms denote the squads just so they aren’t a completely black and white army.
The basing on these is bit more than I normally do and reading the Terrain tutors book recently inspired a me to put a bit more effort in. To make these stand above the basing material I put 1mm plasticard strips on the bases of the red squad and then based, without the miniatures stuck down, them and painted them only to find I couldn’t tell were the strips were once they were finished. The green, blue and yellow squads are stuck straight onto the basing material and that didn’t really work out too well.
The orange squad are stuck onto the plasticard strips and then stuck to the base before basing them. This seemed to work much better.
More Ships
Here is the Y wing also from dark fire designs. Almost to big for my photo box. Painted using the same techniques as the X wing however wiping off the shade on the piped section behind the cockpit proved harder than I thought.
Some scenery
After taking a bit of a break from Star War I am back with a bang. Just before Christmas I managed to get a Elegoo Saturn and using some files from Dark Fire Designs I printed this X-Wing.
The weathering was done mainly with Nuln Oil and then wipe it off with a cloth moving it only towards the back. The ware on the grey sections is where I managed to rub off the paint but it I happy with it. The foils do open and it will sit on a GW flying stand if you wanted to house rule it for use in game but I did it for a scenery piece or maybe an objective.
I have a Y wing nearly done and some mando’s also from dark fire and 5 squads of clones also on the table at the moment.
Bossk
I thought I would try something new with him and I drybrushed the skin yellow before putting contrast over the top, it didn’t really work as well I as would have liked, should have thinned the contrast down a bit
One foot in the water
I bit overwhelmed to get a mention in the golden button section the other week. We’re not worthy springs to mind.
The last couple of weeks been trying to get these done bad boys done. I have been following another of Sorastro’s excellent painting tutorials:
Mixing the wash wasn’t my finest as it started ok and then got darker and darker, I need to mix things more thoroughly in future.
Progress, Progress
Been trying to get things finished and not distracted by the new shiney. I’ve built my clone wars starter set, but I wont start painting until the other stuff is complete (hopefully).
Tuantaun riders
While the base for the tank is drying I started something new.
