THE HOTH BATTLEFIELD

About the Project
After picking up some of the Hoth themed miniatures for Star Wars Legion I decided to work on a terrain board. All my games so far have been on desert boards so it will make a nice change to have a bit of snow. The board will be 4 foot square and contain a trench system to fight around.

Planing and Shaping
The first thing I did was draw out a plan of my trench system. In games of Legion objectives are usually around the centre of the board. I didn’t want one side of the board to be a trench and not the other to give all sides a chance for cover. As well as watching the film for inspiration I put on Battlefront 2 and played the Hoth level. I picked up some blue upholstery foam into blocks that once cut up should cover the 4 foot square space needed.
WHITE OUT
Now I have my shapes I had to texture them with some sand I scraped up from a local Cave. Once dry I used emulsion paint which may not have been the best choice as it takes an age to dry but the end result isn’t to bad. Trench floor details are next.
LAYING THE TRENCH
Instead of fixing my foam to a board I’m leaving them as separate pieces so I can use them on different boards as hills or even ice begs on a sea mat maybe. So for the trench I just cut out the shapes needed and flocked them with sand ready for painting. I used some spare mini bases as duck boards.
ADDING WIRES
After looking at images from the film you can see power cables running from generators to weapon platforms. This was easy to do with some cut wire.
SHIELD GENERATOR
No Battle on Hoth would be complete with out a shield generator for the Empire to target with maximum firepower. This one is from Microarts Studio.
