There's nothing which frustrates me more on games night than set-up. Depending on the game, I could leave, produce a small play, cast Tom Hardy as the lead, and get through the opening night before the first dice is rolled. And if that game is Arkham Horror, I can probably have a successful three-month run in the West End and still return to watch the last cards being organised.

My point is game set-up, while necessary, slows down what should otherwise be an awesome games night, and I'm not the only one who thinks so. The guys over at UGears Games have released a range of storage solutions designed to streamline set-up and improve gameplay. Spoiler alert: they're awesome.

The Kickstarter showcases four different products - the Card Holder, the modular Dice Tower, the Deck Box, and the Game Master's Screen. Each item is made of high-quality laser cut wood and comes flat-packed for self-assembly.

I understand that some gamers may not be a fan of self-assembly but I personally love putting a good puzzle together (although UGears have promised simplicity). Plus, what gamer doesn't love the feeling of token-poppin' components? And, while you can probably go into a shop and buy some form of storage for your cards, I doubt any of them are going to hold up to 500 cards while looking quite as stunning as this.

The Game Master's Screen is another quality piece of design. Created to look like a tome when folded, once opened, it accommodates four A4 sheets, provides complete coverage and even has a built-in dice tower. So cool.

There's also a modular dice tower which can be separated into four dice cups, or combined into a more traditional dice tower. This is perhaps the only component which underwhelms me, but I don't like dice towers. If you do, this is pretty funky.

Don't worry, if you're more of a card gamer than a board gamer, UGears has you covered. Their Deck Box holds up to 120 cards, has a nifty opening mechanism and fits into the palm of your hand. Admittedly, this product feels less about storage and more about flash but hey, live your life.

There's also a fifth 'Secret Model' which can be purchased. UGears won't be releasing details of it until later in the campaign but, if the rest of this Kickstarter is anything to go by, it is going to be something special.

Laser cut wood is a bit of a Marmite product - you either love it or you hate it. Regardless of your opinion on the material though, it's hard to deny that there's value in the method when it opens up possibilities for flat-pack builds that result in such beautiful items.
