October 25, 2018 by dignity
Today Justin is met with Chris from Sally 4th to play a little Round Breakdown of Albedo Combat Patrol.
Back It Here On Kickstarter
ACP164 is set in a universe invented 30 years ago by Steve Gallacci for his comic series, Albedo Anthropomorphics.
All the content and background is compatible with either RPG version, and the campaign book is written to be useful for RPG gamers.
Do you have any suggestions for Albedo Combat Patrol?

Those`s rules are….something special indeed….
They are similar to “Combat Patrol” (in that it’s a card driven gameplay), a bit different in some areas. Combat Patrol (WW2 rules) are also available from Sally 4th, they are very good at squad level, but kinda break down if you go beyond a platoon each side. It actually plays quite quickly (once you get used to the rules), and allows you to spread out your squad if you want (rather than the usual 2″ between figures which has been in every skirmish game since Rogue Trader and 40K came out). Spreading the troopers out give some advantages (and… Read more »
Thanks for your comments. Combat Patrol and Albedo Combat Patrol are Platoon level games, exactly the same level of game as Bolt Action for example, which is designed for each player to command up to a reinforced platoon. However, we have played Company level games at conventions with no problem or slow down at all. Each player commands a Platoon, Company level assets get allocated down and each player cracks on with their own action deck. If you have the space and gamers to put on a big game, this is a great gaming experience and works very well. But… Read more »
I’ve had great fun playing Combat Patrol, at first it seems a bit daunting with all the symbols on the cards…but you soon get used to it. It’s quite a well thought out ruleset that uses the cards to resolve most things (and not having large tables that you need to look up), the “rules” are basically printed on the cards. Also gives rise to some RPG “bits” (like dragging a wounded soldier into cover, rather than just removing it from the table). We’ve got a few converts at our club, and it gives a good game (and also has… Read more »
The rules look interesting and different. I also like the way this demo was played on a small board with a few miniatures. It looks like the rules hold up and give a playable game even at this small level.
One of our concerns was that the game be fun with just a handful of figures. Having to buy a ton of figures to get a minimum game in was not going to be appealing. However while we did want the game to play small, we also wanted the game to escalate well do. And the Combat Patrol ruleset by Buck does that surprisingly well.
Looks fun. Like the initiative system.
Glad you like it! I was a little thrown by it when it was introduced to me last year, but Buck was very kind to explain what he had seen in the military. In a firefight your not really getting equal action out of all soldiers every minuet. When people are shooting at you, you discover a whole world of new priorities you never realized you had, living to see 21 being one of them. Combat is not neat and orderly.
