We talk with the folks behind Age Of Sigmar: Champions about what’s new for the game. This means the coming of Onslaught and something awesome that might be happening at Warhammer World soon.

There is a lot of awesome stuff on the way for this game as well as prize support at tournaments and the like. Of course, we can’t wait to check out the game in more detail with the PlayFusion guys.

CMON has been showing off one of their newer games here at the convention which is still in the prototype stage. The game is called Sugar Blast!

Working alongside some familiar mechanics from other games of its type, and very much tapping into the mobile phone game market it seems the game has some cool twists to it.

Making sweet combinations can be such a blast! In Sugar Blast, you try to make connections between same-coloured Candies to create Blasts! You must swap out two adjacent Candies to make a string of three or more of the same type.

Then, you remove the matched Candies and adjust the unique tilting board so that Candies slide down to fill in the missing spaces. Finally, you fill in Candies at the top from ones chosen randomly from the bag. The bigger the Blast you create, the more Candies you’ll earn.

This is one we might have to keep our eye on since it could be another good gateway game!

FFG have made a big splash with the launch of their first two unique games; the collectable card game Keyforge and the exploration board game Discover.

Keyforge was announced at GenCon, where it made quite a stir with its promise of providing players with completely unique decks with every purchase.

Discover takes this technology and applies it to a scenario based board game, providing players with their own combinations of missions and characters to make sure everyone gets a personal gaming experience.

Both games are really exciting in what they promise for the industry to come and we cannot wait to see what Fantasy Flight have planned for them in the future.

The UK Games Expo guys are at Spiel ’18 and we stopped off with them to have a quick chat about how they felt UKGE went this year and how are things shaping up for the future.

Keep an eye out for the subtle appearance of a familiar face.

One of the games that popped up in some of our previews was from Cosmodrome Games called Smartphone Inc. This game is one for those who like their turtlenecks as you’re going to be playing as moguls who are looking to be the best in the world.

It’s rather interesting to have a game which is all about looking at screens…being played out on the tabletop. Here in these images, you can see the rather techy looking set-up.

NSKN Games’ Teotihuacan has been one of the most hotly anticipated games of Spiel ’18. So much so that they sold out of it within the first few hours of Day One!

Teotihuacan is a large Eurogame where players seek to build a pyramid in Mesoamerica, using dice-as-workers. Strategise and work hard to ensure you create a monument that will stand the test of time.

White Wolf Publishing has of course been doing a lot focus around Vampire The Masquerade but the role-playing game also matches up alongside the return of a card game AND a board game too.

The artwork for these games is always evocative and it’s fantastic seeing the World Of Darkness regaining more popularity in the mainstream as well as being an RPG which somewhat hugs the fringes.

Let’s just hope they do a lot more for Werewolf: The Apocalypse too!

Dized are at Spiel ’18 demonstrating their new app that helps to teach you how to play board games.

The app is currently going through its open Beta period, letting people try it out and see how much easier it makes the process of learning all those rules.

Spiel really is a celebration of tabletop gaming, and as such it’s not just new games that people are playing.

There are loads of variations on the classic game of chess on display, and some people are playing it so fast it boggles the mind!

The team from Yoka Games is telling us all about some of the games they have in the pipeline, each of them with a lighter feel to them including an awesome game called Contract and even something which has got a special place in a lot of hearts, the One Punch Man game!

Contract is a fascinating game which is all about bluffing, controlling your family and generally living the Mafioso lifestyle.

The team have also been working on a lot of games based on animes and such which is kinda awesome!

We have a LOT of content to film when we get home it seems. Two massive boxes are getting packed full of board games which we’re going to be delving into when we get home so that we can do loads of Let’s Plays for you.

Ryan is very happy with a lot of the games we have and Ben has been drooling over a few too. There is going to be a good mix of smaller games, larger games, party games and more for us to try out with you to see what you like!

Another one of the games that FryxGames wanted to talk to us about was After The Virus. You will know these folks from our chat about Terraforming Mars and the expansions that we’ve been seeing coming to the fore so you know these guys are great when it comes to mechanics.

After The Virus is a 1-3 Player cooperative card game all about surviving against the zombie hordes with a deckbuilding mechanic backing it all up.

It has a very quirky look and feel to it but well worth checking out if you like zombie survival!

Doomseeker has made its European launch at Spiel ’18 and plenty of people have gone to the Ninja Division stand eager to seek their doom!

Doomseeker sees you step back into the world of Warhammer Fantasy Battles as a Slayer, a dwarf who must seek a glorious death in order to make up for a grievous shame.

Players take on the role of a variety of characterful slayers and set out to defeat monsters and earn glory, all to become the one whose death will resound in the sagas of their dwarf kin.

Room 17 are heading in a different, downwards direction for their next project as they present Tenfold, a system of stackable dungeon-delving terrain.

We have had a lot of fun with Room 17’s games, so it was great to get a chance to find out what they are working on. Tenfold looks to be the answer for those fans of dungeon delving who want to create an evocative gaming environment that won’t break the back.

Spiel ’18 provides plenty of places to relax, enjoy a game and grab some refreshments.

One of the most popular has been the Snakes & Lattes pop-up board game cafe, where people have been coming to grab a coffee and try their board game collection.

Pandasaurus Games has been playing around with some great ideas recently and one of them is Dinosaur Island which has you trying to take control of one of these out of control islands where crazy things happen from the prehistoric era.

As well as Dinosaur Island we also chat about what’s going on with Nyctophobia which we have played and absolutely loved!

This game has one player playing as the Hunter whilst the others are being Hunted AND they cannot see at all!

Queen Games have been showing off some of their newest releases this year including the Spiel Des Jahres nominated Luxor.

As well as that they take the time to talk about Bastille & Skylands; two awesome games also in their library that we can’t wait to try out in more detail.

The team at Warlord Games have got plenty of irons in the fire as it where when it comes to their games right now. Cruel Seas is just around the corner and Blood Red Skies is getting more and more exciting every time we see it.

We have plenty of awesome stuff on the horizon for you Historical Wargamers and I reckon you’re going to be telling us just what you think of both of these games AND Bolt Action as it continues to evolve from Warlord Games.

Ryan stops in with Roxley Game Laboratory to talk about two of their massive games which have sold out here at the convention including Brass: Lancashire and Brass: Birmingham.

Both of these games are titans that have rocked the board gaming world and Birmingham does a lot to address some of the meta developments that came out of Lancashire during its lifetime.

There is a still a lot that players love from both games and with Ben as a proper Brummie it’s great to have a game which looks back at his neck of the woods!

Earlier during the weekend we got to talk to the designer behind the rather expansive board game, Heropath: Dragon Roar and learned a bit more not only about its development but also what kind of mechanics we have at play here.

The game appears to mix together a lot that would be considered staple for a board game but also provides you with interesting quests, unique characters each with their own developmental cycles and more.

Add into this the new expansions for the game and you have a product that might find itself on more shelves over the coming months.
