Crusader squad Malleatoris Incus
Sword brother Marius Rex
He slowly drew his sword feeling the low hum of power emanating from within. The crevasse was so narrow he almost couldn’t fit through it and as he came out on the other side a vile sight met him. Five pale daemons with vicious claws for hands were in the process of tearing the flesh off one of the villagers.
“In the name of the Emperor I will send you all back to the empyrean” he said as he readied his shield. The all simultaneously looked up at him with ink black eyes and let out a drawn out shrilling scream as they charged the tall man. They moved almost like quicksilver, flowing around him. The first one fell from a swift cut of the power blade and then they where over him like shrieking birds. He bashed one with the shield before impaling the second, tearing it in two.
The last daemon jumped on his back clawing at the helm. He ducked down and in one swift move grabbed its claw throwing the agile creature straight into the cliff wall. It had barely gotten up before a heavy boot crushed it leaving four husks fading on the ground.
“I banished the last of them” he said into the coms. “Marius Rex out”

This is the first of the Black templars that I have set out to build. They are built around the new stormcast eternal sequitors with bitz from different space marine kits to bring it into 40k.
They are sent to aid their sword sisters in a crusade for the Martyr’s tears and with only a handful of templars most of them fight with close combat weapons instead of the Astartes favoured bolter.
In killteam I have chosen to use the Death watch template to create them since you have a lot more close combat options there. The Black templars doesn’t fight like other marines so I felt this was the right choice to really make a team that feels true to the background. So far I have converted three models so there is more to come. I might even make a short guide on how I made them if you want to know.
So what do you all think? Does it feel like a Black templar?
Excellent work kelvin. I started work on a Black Templars Kill Team before deeply reading into the rules. I have a couple of the upgrade kits from years ago – I even have the 4th ed Codex. I hit a problem with the rules that, when I looked closer, the Tactical Marine entry didn’t allow a chainsword and bolt pistol combo on the basic trooper. Then the Commander expansion isn’t allowing non-Primaris HQ choices, which left me totally disheartened. I hadn’t thought of using the Deathwatch entry to run them in Kill Team. I’ll have a look but one thing… Read more »
I was too deep into chaos to realize how cool they were back in the 90s when they had their own codex. I feel like it’s a missed chance to give them the distinct style without allowing it so shine through when you build the army. When I started to build the models I failed to make them fit into the regular marines list so I went over the lists and found that Death watch allowed for shields. Yes, their structure with elders training they youngs is a cool piece of fluff. It works in 40K but Killteam is too… Read more »
This is great! That first guy looks super awesome!
Great thinking with using the Deathwatch for them too, would never have thought of it myself!
