Build Arcane Structures In The Towers of Arkhanos
October 4, 2018 by cassn
Archmagician Arkhanos spent decades searching for the highest concentration of magic in all the land. Finally, his search has come to an end at Drunagor, where massive amounts of manna exist for arcane manipulation. Play as a school of magicians from a far-off kingdom who have come to control this precious magic source and rule the magical towers which surround it.
In The Towers of Arkhanos, players choose their magical school and are provided with a spell card, magician and apprentice meeples. Players then roll a number of dice (5 in a four player game), and place that dice on a corresponding pillar in the center of the table, to trigger that pillars special effects. The turn then moves round to the next player.
The pillars are completed when the third pillar of a tower has an allocated dice/meeple, and then the floor is scored. Prestige Points are scored based on player strength and who helped to create the tower. Meeples are then returned to their school. However, apprentices allocated on a floor without a dice are frozen for all eternity, and must remain on the tower forever!
If a player finds they do not have a dice to play on any of the edge towers, they can play their dice on the middle tower instead. This is a less powerful tower which can have any dice allocated to it, but has the benefit of granting powerful, mystical spells from a player's spellbook.
The game is over once eight rounds have been completed, and the player with the most Prestige Points at the end of the game is named the most powerful wizard in the realm!
The Towers of Arkhanos is a really interesting dice-drafting worker placement game with some really nice components. The Kickstarter ends on the 1st November, and there are a lot of different goals to be unlocked before then. So if you think you've got what it takes to become the greatest magician in the land, you can raise your staff and pledge yourself here.
