War Banner Preview More Veteran Greek Commanders For Mortal Gods
October 4, 2018 by brennon
War Banner has shown off more of the work going into the stunning Greeks that you'll be able to use in their upcoming game, Mortal Gods.
This new set shows off a very grizzled commander. I love the scar on the front of his helmet and the matching one across his eye too. You could imagine him doing the whole Leonidas thing and leading his warriors into battle in his battered and well-worn armour.
The big thing that will be a draw to this game is the colour and heroic stories that you get when you think of the Greeks. Not only does their armour and such come plastered in amazing schemes but also everything about the Greeks has been given a boost by their ties to their Mythology.
Whilst the game is taking a very Historical angle it's hard to separate these Greek commanders from the likes of Theseus, Achilles, Odysseus and such. The draw of telling stories of them and their battles on the tabletop is going to be rather strong indeed.
I think this is the same thing that draws people towards games like SAGA too. Norse mythology is very tightly intertwined with the real people who existed during the period and so it's awesome to play out their adventures.
What do you think?

Would be nice if War Banner link up with Little Big Man Studios to do some shield transfers (if the current ranges don’t quite fit), because painting those individual Hoplite shields can try you CRAZY!!!!!!!!
From my understanding of something I read on Victrix Facebook page recently is that they were supplying the plastics. If that is the case then any figures designed by War Banner would all have to fit in, this to me would also include shield size. If they do then yes your right LBM victrix shield transfers would fit perfectly.
Edit : the post I was referring to was on War Banners Facebook page on the 28th September. Hope that helps.
So by the sounds of it, War Banner will be using the existing plastic Greek Hoplite sprues for the “rank and file” while releasing new metals for the heros?
Yes that is my understanding of it, which I think will be great.
Lovely looking figure’s
I’ve been enjoying seeing this range develop. I’d be interested to hear if there is any refinement of the release date which appears to be “early 2019”. Anyone heard anything more specific?
I’m still considering painting up ancient armies for a Battlesystem game, and throwing in some demi-gods and creatures out of Greek Mythology. Of course, that would add considerably to my plastic/lead mountain, so trying to resist… but it’s becoming harder with models like these.
I find their semi random release style very offputting sadly.
Those look really good.
These are really nice! Must resist starting a new game for now though.
