About the Project
An ongoing terrain project to make a versatile terrain set for games of Star Wars Legion. Using a mixture of scratch built and MDF scenery sets. I use a lot of sets from Australian suppliers like Knights of Dice, BPlaser and MiniaturScenery.

Crashed Tie Fighter from Miniaturescenerey
I detailed up the great mdf kit from https://miniaturescenery.com/ with paper straws, lolly sticks, wires and curved bull cut from toilet paper tubes. The original looks more like it’s been looted and scavenged (great for a Jakku board) but I wanted this to look like a scattered crash with bits all over the place an overgrown. Maybe a lost patrol over Endor or Yavin.
Sci-Fi Scatter: Hydroponics pods.
I haven’ had a chance to work on the Imperial bunker for a while but I did knock out these little hydroponics pods to go on my Legion board. It’s a dusty, dry, rocky, planet and I figured they’d need some hydroponics units to produce and food.
-I stared with some papier mache circular boxes from the craft shop. I just the lid for one and the body for another. I grabbed some 50mm spare bases to delineate the growing area on top.
-I glued on a section of foam to hold plant stems and decorated the sides with widgets and panels to make it look like there were environmental support systems inside.
-I sprayed everything up in white to match other industrial pods on my board.
-Then the soil was painted up and a range of plants added to each one to represent different fruits, herbs or leafy veggies.
-I check to make sure the plants weren’t too tall for the Christmas baubles I was using for domes.
-The sides were dry brushed for highlights, weathered with a mix of rusty washes and sponge stippling.
-I also added a few random arubesh letters and paint patterns to break up the colours.
Bulk construction
With the sub-assemblies and scatter built I carefullly planned out how to add extra details to cover joins and add more character. Then I got super excited about putting toy soldiers inside it so I just built the whole damn thing!
Ahh, I needed that. Now that I’ve had a play with some minis on it and have a good idea of the scale.
I’m a big fan of narrative games so I wanted to see how it would look with troops being briefed, sent on patrols and some sneaky rebel saboteurs lurking about the place.
Next entry will be about fine detailing the kit before I get some paint on it.
Cheers, T
A new hope
I actually started the build for this table before Legion was released but with the new project system at On Table Top I thought I’d start a log for it.
The main focus here will be adding an Imperial Bunker from BPlaser to my exisiting board. I like to mix and match different components from MDF scenery makers to get the look I want and often add my own flourishes with plasticard, card stock and so on.
This post shows some of the sub assemblies of the bunker as well as some containers and rooftop widgets from BP laser that I thought would work well. I added some extra details to the interior walls using spare hex bases and offcuts from the containers.
Enjoy.
