Weathering Soviet IS-2 tanks
Varnish on. Looking good!
The varnish definitely did good. I’m not sure how well it comes across from the photos, but killing any shine from the washes or the pigment fixer takes the model to a next level in terms of realism.
As I expected, the lighter pigment colours seem a little darker now. I’ll need to consider adding more pigment on top.
Looks class @guillotine – Any tips about how to paint on the white lines. Is it just basic brushwork? I’ve always shide away from doing them.
Thanks @lloyd! I used a piece of masking tape on one edge as a guide. Helps to keep the line straight, and in this case I wanted it to align with the decals. As always with white, you have to be patient and paint it in multiple layers.
Man, @guillotine – I recommended all over this thing (I feel so dirty). 😀
Seriously, though, epic work. Definitely one of my favorite WW2 tanks, from one of my favorite Soviet units (the white band around the turret marks this as a Battle for Berlin IS-2, probably from Katukov’s 1st Guards Tank Army). Awesome weathering and great work on the “weight” of the tracks.
