Community Spotlight: Pencocwocor, A Mighty Troll & Snarling Orc Riders
September 28, 2018 by brennon
Come and join us for another delve into the Forums and Projects to find the best of the best from the last week or so. We're going to be getting stuck into lots of great looking pieces this week...
...make sure to always let us know what YOU have been working on and share it across the site.
Pencocwocor by lobstermooch
lobstermooch has been painting up a rather strange creature that I had never heard of before. Here we have the Pencocwocor from Darklands painted up in stunning quality.
This creature was his first step into the world of wet blending on the skin and scales and I think that it has come out very well indeed. I think the blue and the red is a good mix and the little highlights on the ridges really help push the model to the next level.
This has come out very well indeed and the paint scheme as a whole really does push me towards the idea of using it in Age Of Sigmar. The colour choices and such make me think of a creature of High Fantasy rather than one of a grimdark and gritty one that we're used to seeing.
Paul Bonner Troll by warlockmini
warlockminis has been working away on an awesome Troll which we showed off on the Hobby Hangout a couple of weeks ago. Take a look at the Paul Bonner style creature with a new twist to it.
A lot of effort has gone into the skin showing off a ruddy-nosed creature which has no doubt been on the hooch as much as he has the bashin' and smashin'.
In particular, the work on the shield on the back of the model has come across very nicely, with the overall scheme being warm and very artistic...even inviting!
I particularly like the effort that has gone into some additional features on the troll. For example, the rug that you can see on top of the model was completely hand sculpted and covers up the very grisly heads that the basket used to contain.
I think it lends the character a much more mercenary nature and flows with the idea of him being a travelling troll just minding his own business.
Orc Boar Riders by tanath
Last but not least we're sticking with the idea of old school creatures as we check out some Orc Boar Riders by tanath.
Each of these models has been painted with a level of modern expertise but also in keeping with the old school paint schemes we're used to seeing on Oldhammer models. For example, you can see the quirky way the shields have come together, with blazing yellows and reds matched against the pale skin of the Orcs.
I am a big fan of these kinds of paint schemes and that's why this has popped up as a favourite for me this week. Hopefully, we see more of this army over the coming week?

Contratulations to all of you ! A great choice of minis we get to see today. Love them all.
these are fantastic 🙂 especially love the Pencocwocor, very Tzeentch looking 🙂
Looks like a reptilian Skeksis, from Dark Crystal, to me.
… that’s exactly what I was thinking, I almost posted that myself 😀 ha ha
Great minds and all.
Wonderful work, really inspiring.
Great work all. That Paul Boner style troll has so much character!
Are only projects highlighted to the community?
Lots of excellent stuff, kudos to the winners. It really hits the sweet spot for the fantasy genre. Love the first creature and agree with the AoS sentiment. It could be some sort of Tzeentchian Giant. The Ruddy nosed troll is great too. The old school wolf riders are also fantastic.
Great work guys!
Oh wow! What a way to start a Saturday! Thanks heaps, its a great honour to be mentioned especiallly considering the callibre of work that others are posting.
Huge inspiration from the skeksis and from Golden Axe, which were my fantasy staples growing up, full of colour and awesomeness.
With regards to Aos, he’s on an 80mm base so could probably be used as a demon prince or some such 🙂
I for one can’t wait to hear the guys attempting to pronounce that on the weekender, no giving them hints now. 🙂
Great work.
@brennon @lancorz @lloyd or whoever else is in control, I think urbanSTI here may be a bot.
The sneaky devil.

Congratulations on well deserved buttons all!Great selection of models this week!
I have the Paul Bonner troll model myself as I am a huge fan of his art but have never gotten around to paint it. Great job on the skin and detail! Impressive.
Just started collecting Darklands myself and have been considering the pencocwocor as allies to my Angelcynn and your work on this one is truely inspiring! Great blend.
Allways fun to see some old school models painted up to an as awesome standard as this!
Well done everybody.
