Balance On The Air With Takla From Steffen Spiele

For those who don't think Jenga is challenging enough, Steffen Spiele has produced a game which takes structure balance to a whole new competitive level.
In Takla, players must build their structure so that it touches the red ball in the centre of the board. However, because the base of the tower must stay a set distance away from the centre, it means higher blocks are unsupported, and instead must be kept in place by the clever use of blocks as counterweights.
I absolutely love this game - there's just so many strategic options. You could use blocks upright to make a quick, high, base which, but then you sacrifice stability. Work with more consideration for structural integrity, and another, riskier player may reach the goal before you.
Takla has been created for Steffen Spiele's fifteen-year anniversary, and it's a big game for the publisher. It has a total of 120 good quality blocks, a variable game board and comes packaged in an understated wooden box.
I think the abstract design is beautiful - I'd be proud to have this playing on a gaming night. Takla will be available from October 15th on the Steffan Spiele website and will, of course, be demonstrating at Essen later this year.
