Hunt The Enemies Of The Empire With Star Wars Scout Troopers
September 19, 2018 by brennon
Scout Troopers might be known for flying into trees in Return Of The Jedi but they are actually some of the most highly skilled troops in the Galactic Empire. Fantasy Flight Games previewed these Scout Troopers in a new article looking at their use in Star Wars: Legion.
This set, much like with all of the other expansions, gives you the chance to bring these Scout Troopers to the tabletop with a range of weapon options, unit upgrades and more. It helps that the Scout Troopers also look rather awesome. I love their helmet designs; much more so than the standard look for the regular Storm Troopers.
Much like with the Rebel operatives we'd seen pop up a couple of weeks ago the Scout Troopers can get themselves a sniper rifle for long-range strikes on the tabletop, covering the advance of your other units as they close in on objectives.
The sniper rifle armed strike teams provide you with a small, specialised unit on the tabletop that benefits from cover more than others AND means that you can focus in on taking out important characters and such with ease, rather than having to move an entire squad to deal with the threat.
As a larger entity, the Scout Troopers are just as useful, able to hold onto objectives well and get a bead on enemies with their superior marksmanship.
Are the Scout Troopers going to feature in your larger Star Wars: Legion army?
Drop your thoughts below on them...

Best looking figures so far. Looking forward to painting these up in Shore Trooper-esque colour scheme.
Great figure’s.
2 squads, one as regular scout troopers, the other as shore troopers.
Really good looking minis and very well themed in my opinion, the scouts (similar to pathfinders) should be elite troops, they fit perfect. Really going to buy them instead of more “known” heroes.
I’ve always thought their helmets are stupid. Why would a soldier restrict their peripheral vision?
Not a Star Wars tech nerd….maybe they do not really look out of the glasses and at display´s in the helmet?
While it feels weird seeing Scout Troopers without they speeder bikes those do look really good.
Pre-order and paid, some great minis, and some nice tactical options as well.
When 1 model has a different weapon, like a sniper rifle or an ion gun, do you roll their dice separate?
Depends. When shooting at the same target its one dice pool with the effects counting for the entire pool. So an ion token will trigger with any hit in the pool…not only from the die of the special weapon. But different weapons can shoot at different targets. In that case it means separate pools/rolls.
I have two squads on pre-order and plan to use them with my half dozen “Star Wars Legion: 74-Z Speeder Bikes Expansion” as mounted infantry.
You bet I’ll add at least 1 squad of these! I’ve always loved how these guys look (despite the helmet being stupid in real life 🙂 …) and these minis are looking great with great options.
They look great. And despite all the negativity about the minis floating around…the game is fun and oozes Star Wars feel like crazy. We have a lot of fun with it and always attract a lot of attention playing in our FLGS.
The first few waves of minis for Legion were pretty mediocre but they do seem to be getting better and better. The Wookiees and Royal Guard that are due out later in the year look fantastic.
Looking forward to getting these guys on the table, they introduce some much needed diversity to the imperial infantry.
Worth adding as I just realised, you get enough to field a min squad and sapper plus the sniper and a spotter as a weapon team
