Riches are a curse, especially if you're stealing them from a mythical city of gold.

The Quest for El Dorado: Heroes and Hexes is an expansion to the original The Quest for El Dorado deck-builder.  It includes three new terrain tiles which bring mystic curses into gameplay.  In the new expansion, demons haunt spaces around the board, ready to curse any unwitting treasure-hunters.

However, unlike other tiles, players do not encounter a cost when moving to a demonic tile, making curses a potentially profitable affair.  Furthermore, demon tiles provide tunnels which allow you to move from one hex to another on the same tile.  When a player moves onto a demon space, they become cursed.  Curses can range from losing items, paralysis, or even a permanent demon shuffled into your deck to taunt you for all eternity.

To use the expansion, players must also use the "Caves" variant of The Quest for El Dorado base game.  The expansion also includes new cave tokens and new expedition cards to further the game experience and suggests six possible map set-ups, ranging from medium to hard.

The base game has been incredibly popular for Ravensburger, and it's good to see such a substantial expansion being released.  It will be available at Essen in October - if you've got the gold.
