You know, I was doing SO WELL staying away from Magic the Gathering until my grandson showed interest in my collection...

And I'm back! October 5th will be the launch of the Guilds of Ravnica set and there's plenty to be excited about here. On top of being one of my favorite planes, Ravnica features some of the most beautiful artwork and characters in the game.

This set looks to set the perfect stage for card synergies whether you are playing traditional Magic or you are crafting your Commander deck. One thing for sure is that I will be creating a green white deck!

Speaking of green and white decks, let's take a look at some of the great cards on the way. I have to start with my favorite, Emma- Soul of the Accord. Not only is she a beautiful elf, she only costs 2 and generates a 1/1 soldier token with life link every time she becomes tapped! This makes her a really strong card in standard as well as Commander formats.

If you're more in a blue/red camp, then you also have something to cheer about with Ral- Izzet Viceroy. Ral is in the mix strictly to bring the pain. His minus abilities to deal damage will put the hurt on and fast if you don't control him early on.

If you're more into the big, bad beasties, then look no further than the Impervious Greatwurm. Not only does he have a face that only a mother could love, he is an indestructible 16/16! He comes at the hefty price of 10 mana, but he does have convoke, which means you can tap your creatures to count as mana. (spoiler alert- if you don't prevent him from getting out on the battlefield, you're going to die!)

Back to red/blue- Firemind's Research will definitely do some damage. This enchantment basically rewards you every time you cast an instant or sorcery.

Bottom line here, is Guilds of Ravnica is going to bring some amazing decks to the table (MY table).

What do you think of the card synergies on the way in Guilds of Ravnica?
