Just wanted to jump in and say that I very much approve of this message! My girlfriend and I played board games when we first met each other and it was a great way to break the ice and get to know each other more – always good to show off your inner nerd and hopefully, you’ll find someone who shares the passion! Board games are just bloody good fun too! Last game I played with my girlfriend on my team was Decrypto and it was hilarious when I just didn’t get her clues and awesome when we matched up… Read more »
In my dating experience I ran treasure hunts and puzzles, had some epic dates and some awful ones because of it.
My fiancé and I love to play Near & Far, Harvest Dice & Patchwork. The latter two are perfect for cafe dates if you’re comfortable with people being jealous on the tables nearby.
Well said! And on the account of the games – I do have Fog og Love at home and it is brilliant and a lot of fun!
Not the kind of games breakdown i normally see here but entertaining non the less, @cassn if you have a single elderly gaming loving sister or aunt give her my email lol as all the women ive known have frowned upon my big kid hobbies. It may be an age thing as well as these days gaming seems a lot more prominent and accepted than when i was younger (im a young minded 50). i may be wrong, probably am, but in those days the emphasis seemed to be on different things and i only ever heard of D&D when… Read more »
For me it’s the other way around. My boyfriend does not get why I enjoy to paint, pitch ‘toy soldiers’ against each other in an epic battle or spend all evening at the local board game cafe. He actually seems mighty confused by it :D. And I do sometimes wish he would play with me. But then…I have very little interest in his hobbies (electronics), allthough we sometimes try to colab and make my buildings light up or have buttons that makes certain sounds.
I completely agree that board gaming has become a lot more mainstream in recent years, and with that a lot of the old stigma surrounding hobby and gaming has thankfully died away.
Sadly no sister or aunt to pass on your email to but I’m sure you’ll find your other half one day – right now she’s probably sitting painting miniatures with an adorable Jack Russell all of her own!! ?
if i find her and she does have a Jack Russell and can paint ill be doubly happy.
cant beat furry cuddles or help emptying the stuff to paint cupboard mine is a two person job now lol
I completely agree. Never hide your’nerdy’ self. If your (future) significant other can’t/won’t find it endearing, then don’t waste your time. You really don’t want to be in a relationship where you have to hide what you love. My boyfriend does not understand my passion for all things gaming and paunting. But he accepts it and encourage it. It might not be something we share, but it’s also not something I hide.
It sounds like you’ve got a really strong relationship. Even if he doesn’t share your hobby, he understands how much it means to you which is great, and by the sound of your reply to @wolf320f, even if you don’t game with your partner, you seem to have found a way to involve him in this part of your life through building collaborations, which is pretty awesome!!
What an interesting article, whilst I have pretty much given up on the dating game, its exhausting. I will say I never hid my interest in gaming, as far as I am concerned, it is what I do, if you cannot accept that then I don’t want to date you was my attitude. Like any interest it will get a mixed reaction, some will be interested, others will run a mile, but more often than not it was nothing to do with my gaming that dates did not work out…lol I have never tried having a Gaming Date as it… Read more »
Lol I think a singles section of BoW/OTT would just be requests for gaming dates with @dracs and @ludicryan lol ?
If I can give any advice (as if I’m in any position to!!) – don’t give up on the dating game just yet. Keep doing what you love and that passion will shine through. Personal happiness is a very attractive quality!!
As long as the prospective date brings plenty of chocolate, I’m game!
A great article with a fresh new angle! I love it! I sort of met my girlfriend @gladesrunner (Jenn) though a gaming connection (we did a lot more RPGs in those days). Later on after we’d moved in together, we would occasionally play the old “Red Storm Rising” board wargame. This is a game that recreates the WWIII scenario laid out in To Clancy’s classic 1980s novel, with the Soviets and Warsaw Pact invading into West Germany, opposed by NATO. To give it a “couples” angle we would designate the objectives in the game as certain things around the house.… Read more »
Thank you for sharing this @oriskany, this is the sort of couple meta-gaming I live for!! You and @gladesrunner are clearly an adorable gaming duo!
Anyone got a quick cheat sheet for the game of life ?
’cause I never knew dating was a game that needed to be won … might explain lots of things LOL
More weird and wonderful articles as an excuse to promote gaming with non gamers please. 🙂
Next article : games not to play if you want to avoid having start a new dating game 😉
Suggested entries :
– Diplomacy
– Risk
– any game featuring traitors (Werewolf) because some may take games a little too seriously …
Well, Diplomacy runs 6-9 hours … and you usually play with 4-6 players. But you’re right. This game ruins friendships. Couples beware. 😀
Monopoly!
My wife and I have not played Monopoly since before I proposed to her. We’ve been happily together for 32 years now. You may have something there @Warzan. ?
When we first moved to the UK – 12+ years ago we did stay 2 week in a joke of a room while our house got ready – all we had was a small antenna TV and a Star Wars Monopoly so we had a lot of games of it … but have not played it since
Jungle Speed – hard to keep being flirtatious after you’ve taken a chunk out of his skin over a totem!! ???
Lol you’re now entering the Sheldon zone,it’s a change from meeting you’re other half at work.
I have the Doritos
my that was a cheeky little plug there minty45 well slipped in there as smooth as a cashmere codpiece lol
I met my wife playing DnD in a comic shop basement. It helped us be goofy without pressure and we got to know eachother for about six months before we actually started dating.
That’s such a lovely story @chargerse67. I hope you and your wife still game regularly!
I’ve played a few games with the missus but every time we play she gets aggressive and tries to grab my balls and stuff them in her mouth as quickly as possible. To be honest it got too much and finally gave our copy of Hungry Hippos to the charity shop
??? LOL
It also helps maintain friendships, I’ve known one of my friends for …26 years and we sort of faded away from one another a while back..say 3 years ago. Now he has game nights and we got to reconnect as friends and he met his Fiance’ at a Board Game night at a store. You may think it’s a little thing, but it can reap massive benefits.
A few months ago I ran into an old friend who was keen to do a Sharp Practice Campaign set during the American Civil War with a friend of his but didn’t have any minis. I offered to be their GM and got everything set up. He didn’t tell me that Jamie (not real name) was a very attractive early 20’s woman (I’m 22) and not some neckbeard, like we were, and I totally panicked. It took me at least 3 game sessions to get comfortable enough to start acting semi-normally. I’m not comfortable around women to start with but I’d… Read more »
I read most of the article, then got distracted by doritos. Especially the bag with the mix of half are guac and half are chilli. Anyhoo, many valid points. With me it was more a kind of after-date type of thing with gaming. My ex, who lived with me for a while (well one of ’em), who I liked and was fair compatible with was an absolute horses ass trying to teach her some board games. Very open to the idea and liking them, but frustrated quickly and impatient. So, same sort of thing; getting to know and see people.… Read more »
I do have an allegience to dwarfs, so if she prefers orcs over elves that’s fine with me …. bloody elves
Great article, well written and fun. Maybe I should try to get a nerdy lady who is into boardgames and Tabletop… My Ex-wife was more into Computer games, my ex fiance tried to but anytime she lost a game she made a scene, and she was jelaous as sh*t… On the other hand she was mentally ill… I personally stopped the whole dating game now a few years ago and I’m not sure I would want to get back into it, it’s such a hassle, especially if you like me do not want to share accomodations ever again and under… Read more »
Hi there! I have big experience in dating and I can say that it is not the best idea to spend time. There are so many cool other ideas for first date. If it is difficult for you to start conversation with a girl on the street, you can always use sex apps, try something like Down Dating, I’m sure you will like it!
Dating as a board game? This is something I didn’t expect to find. I bet it’s quite interesting. I adore dating. This website helps me to find the best dating platform by the way. If you are interested in this too, then don’t hesitate to check the resource.
Most people nowadays don’t have enough spare time and they are mostly focused on their jobs. Don’t be concerned; there are many opportunities to get to know women, and you can do so right from the comfort of your own home. Nowadays, there are several online dating websites. I’d like to share the website https://datingwebsitesreview.net/lesbiedates/ that I use the most. In the near future, you will be able to meet a lot of lovely ladies and go on a date with them.
Oh I love tabletop games, but I can’t hang out with my friends 24/7 to play. I wish I had a girlfriend to play tabletop games with
Thank you for sharing this advice! I believe the best way to start is having good conversation topics, to be skilled at telling jokes or stories, maybe you can practice a little, why don’t you try that at coomeet.com/omegle ? I mean they are girls and are completely strangers so you won’t feel embarrassed. Try it out.
