Let’s Play: Nanty Narking
September 3, 2018 by dracs
The guys from Phalanx Games are in the studio to show us Nanty Narking - a Victorian London re-imagining of beloved board game Ankh Morpork!
Ankh Morpork, based on the Terry Pratchett Discworld series, is sadly no longer in print. However, if you missed your chance to play it, worry not; Phalanx have come to the rescue with Nanty Narking which uses many of the same mechanics but enhanced with beautiful miniatures and new characters.
The play mechanics (but not settings or characters) of Nanty Narking are adapted from the play mechanics for an unrelated game by Martin Wallace, who has previously designed DISCWORLD ® board games.
Can you use Podsnappery in a sentence?

Of course
I am very pleased with myself that I know what Podsnappery means
Doesn’t seem to be much thematic link between the characters on the cards and their effects.
In Discworld: Ankh-Morpork some cards are more thematic than others, but most are there for the game effect with nice art behind them. I’m not sure that it would be possible to make the game fully thematic as a lot of the effects are standard, and the Victorian theme makes it even more difficult than the Discworld theme.
As an abstract game though, the original was a lot of fun and I see no reason why this won’t be too.
I like the card art and the cast of characters drawn from fiction, but not convinced by the gameplay…
I’m not a fan of games that you just play to win, or get the best score… unless it’s a tablet/PC game like Elder Sign Omens, Ticket to Ride etc… which are great for killing time on journeys.
The likes of Pandemic, Monopoly, Risk tend to lose my interest in replay… I prefer a story and ideally an ongoing campaign.
Nice game
Have to say I love games with minis. This looks amazing. Love the art and literary references. I hope it goes to retail because I know I won’t have the funds for the kickstarter. :-[
The plan is for it to go to retail. The KS backers don’t get anything that won’t be available then, they just get the game for cheaper and some free metal coins which will be a purchasable upgrade at retail.
Damn you Sam! Why are you FORCING me to back this KS? :P. The artwork already had me taking a hard look at this but your gameplay pushed me over the edge. I am now a backer.
Make sure to check out our chat with the guys from Phalanx on the latest Weekender as they give away a Kickstarter pledge upgrade.
I had seen that but thanks for reminding us all here about that
