Twist Your Tentacles in A’Writhe: A Game of Eldritch Contortions
August 21, 2018 by cassn
Are you a weirdly bendy occultist, looking to summon deities and build core strength?
Well, have we got a game for you!
Look, we all know the Lovecraft craze can go a little far sometimes. Cthulhu has his tentacles in a lot of pies. But if you thought that all the relevant board games already had a Lovecraft edition, you clearly haven't seen A'Writhe: A Game of Eldritch Contortions, the new release from WizKids.
Picture the scene: you are an occultist, desperately needing to summon The Great One from slumber. You have your comically large map (as all good summoners should). Now all you need to do is draw ancient symbols on it with...oh no, the ink is gone!
How will you get all this summoning on your desk complete before five? Your boss is already angry at you since the necromancy incident (people should really clarify what they mean when they say they're "raising a family").
Fear not, rune writer. Be like Joey in F.R.I.E.N.D.S. - go into your map. And, with a friend to help you, twist yourself into the symbols you need. The Great One will be most pleased as he awakens to find you showing him your...sacrifice...in all your splayed out glory.
Let's call a spade a spade - this is Twister in a cute Halloween costume. But that's okay. Buy it for the kids and roll it out when your mates come over to show your alternative parenting badassery.
Buy it for those student house parties, because you're young, bendy and Lovecraft is all sorts of indie cool. Buy it because it's stupidly fun and you want it - really that's the best reason to do anything. Cthulhu commands it.
What game would you like to see with a Lovecraftian theme?
"The Great One will be most pleased as he awakens to find you showing him your...sacrifice...in all your splayed out glory."

Cthulhu jumps the shark.
I think I can hear Lovecraft turning in his grave.
Turning, or contorting into rune symbols? ?
