Munchkin + Warhammer 40K; Has Science Gone Too Far?

"Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should." - Jurassic Park
Games Workshop has Frankensteined themselves the greatest invention since Mr Reese accidentally dropped his chocolate bar in some peanut butter. Welcome to the fantastically illustrated, madcap world of Munchkin Warhammer 40,000.
"Munchkin and Warhammer 40,000 – two great games that work great together! Become an Ultramarine, Necron, Aeldari, Ork, Death Guard, or Tyranid. Make a Pilgimage to Holy Terra, use your Lasblaster, and of course you need More Dakka! Be vigilant; you might encounter the Sloppity Bilepiper, a Horror of Tzeentch, or even Mortarion himself!"
Primary Munchkin artist John Kovalic is a self-confessed Warhammer 40K fanboy and looked pretty pleased when the game launched at Gen Con yesterday.
The game will be released in 2019, retailing for $29.95 in the U.S for the first Deluxe format. Two more expansions are due to follow later in the year, with a total of 400 cards in the collection. And the collaboration makes sense for Steve Jackson Games;
"Since the original Munchkin card game hit the market in 2001, the Munchkin brand has sold over 9 million games and accessories worldwide. Warhammer 40,000, now in its eighth edition, is one of the longest-lasting classic games of miniatures combat. Now, these two popular games are merging into a storm of carnage and weirdness guaranteed to satisfy armies of gamers."
I feel like this new collaboration will appeal to Munchkin fans more than Warhammer 40K veterans, but it may bring a few undecided gamers towards the Munchkin franchise for a bit of comic relief. After all, who hasn't experienced this feeling:
Are you going to be one of those people who jump in on this to get your Munchkin and Warhammer 40,000 fix at the same time?
What do you think? A collaboration so mad it just might work, or has science gone too far?

Well,i love Munchkin,so i’m in 😀 .
???
Everyone in the 40k universe is horrible to each other, so Munchkin seems like a good fit.
LOL! so true!
Oh, I am so into this!
This may have me dipping my toes back into munchkin again.
Fantastic Idea …
Well 40k is as over the top as it gets so it does fit Munchkin.
The art style fits quite well actually (from what I have seen so far).
I’m really glad to see that at last GW has learned not to take itself and the Grimdark too seriously. I just hope all their rabid Gwombie fanbois eventually follow suit! 🙂
Yeah- way back in the day, 40k was a lot like 2000 AD- a kind of parody dystopia.
They’re in this weird place where they are trying to retcon a lot of their concepts, but they’re forced to keep others (like how sersious branches of the military act like sports teams with cheesy mascots.
I like that it seems like they’re embracing the non-contradiction in having several different presentations of the 40k universe (this and Warhammer Adventures seem like the greatest departures at the moment).
Urgh.
I hope they bring it to the EU….
GW furthering their new approachable approach lol, not a bad thing by any means.
If it expands awareness, makes it more mainstream and gets people in…I’m all up for it! Not something I’ll buy though, purely on the type of game, not the labels
Do you just dislike Munchkin? Because that’s definitely a good reason not to get Munchkin anything.
I wouldnt know if i dont like it tbh. Only board games i play are the usual family favorites, with my family! 😀
I hope you’re not still playing Life or Uno in this day and age- when you could be playing King of Tokyo, Five Minute Dungeon, or Tsuro with the little ones.
Munchkin works as a family game. There is a little reading and addition- monsters all have a ‘level’ and your character wins if his level is higher. A lot of the other cards modify levels by either giving players a bonus or modifying the monster’s level (towards the end, there’s always at least one monster that gets buffed like crazy).
I’m totally in on this
