Printable Scenery Hunt Dragons In Their Flying Frigate
August 3, 2018 by brennon
Printable Scenery is going hunting for dragons with their new Flying Frigate which is now available as an STL file for you to download on their webstore.
The Flying Frigate model is set for 28mm scale wargaming but you could easily rescale the files if you required when working out how to print it. As it stands, the piece is a Fantasy Ship conversion piece with a whole range of additional bits and bobs thrown in to give it that 'flying' edge.
As well as the generator beneath which no doubt pumps the ship full of magical energy you also have the turbines and more towards the back. Whilst this has that Fantasy edge to it you could also see this being a ship of choice for those in the Steampunk genre as well.
Personally I quite like the idea of using these as part of a Blood & Plunder in the skies. With some appropriate models you could instead play out the boarding actions and ship-to-ship combat that you see from that game...but high above the clouds.
Swap the Spanish and the British out for Kobolds and a Fantasy collective and you've got yourself the makings of a nice spin-off to Blood & Plunder using some alternative models.
As mentioned, the ship is available now to snap up in file form and you just need to find someone with a 3D printer to let you have a go! The rigging and all is something you'll have to work on yourself but Printable Scenery does offer a rigging guide on their website.
What do you think of the new ship?

Very nice. Now we need miniature of man named Cid and we are set for Final Fantasy themed board.
This reminds me of my old infamous WoW-times and inspires me for a lot of fantasy skirmishes on the tabletop. I already have several files from Printable Scenery and so far they were always very nice and easy to print. Offering a rigging guide is of course very welcome.
Quite a nice model, I must say. And not too bad a price either…
Does this mean we have to switch “Will it float?” to “Will it fly?”?
Can @lloyd make a proper wind tunnel out of airbrush components to find out?
Dose it print would have to come first 🙂
I think that model will require a pretty good printer to come out looking good. I know mine would struggle (upmini2) though perhaps I should upgrade.
wow this looks brilliant.
Reminds me of the lightening collectors in the film Stardust.
