Wizards Take Us To Ravnica & Eberron With Upcoming D&D Sourcebooks
July 24, 2018 by brennon
Two new worlds have been added to the Dungeon & Dragons Multiverse by Wizards Of The Coast. We're soon going to be able to venture out into the worlds of Ravnica from Magic: The Gathering and Eberron where we meet the Warforged and more!
We start with the Guildmaster's Guide to Ravnica which plunges you into the world of Magic: The Gathering. Drawing on the deep reserve of lore that the Magic world has, the Guildmaster's Guide allows you to play as the people of Ravnica and truly embraces a sense of place for your characters with the backgrounds and the updated ties to the various factions within it.
I must admit that I have very little knowledge of the world of Ravnica but it will be fascinating to see what people do with this new source material. You can watch a video on the new book thanks to D&D Beyond here...
I will add that if you like your Dungeons & Dragons then I highly recommend getting stuck in with D&D Beyond as it is a great resource for a Dungeon Master and Player and their videos are always very insightful.
Eberron Awaits
As well as Ravnica you will soon be able to venture into the world of Warforged and Shifters that is Eberron.
This book will set forth the new Playable Races...
...and the Background for the world of Eberron for you to explore.
Eberron has always been a setting that fascinated me as I loved the focus towards magic becoming a tool for the entire world to use. It wasn't a power that was locked away behind a chosen few and instead was something which inspired fascinating magical machines and engines of war, of which the Warforged are certainly a byproduct.
Eberron also has a rich backstory and history to it with a war that ravaged the landscape offering up ample chances for you to go exploring and embrace the 'treasure hunter' style format with your adventures. You can find out more about that in the video below.
The world of Eberron also throws into the mix some new character choices beyond my favourites, the Warforged. You also have the Shifters who are able to harness their animalistic side much like other shapechangers, Changelings who are a distant relative of the Doppelganger, and the Kalashtar who live an almost symbiotic relationship with interplanar spirits.
Will you be exploring these worlds?

My heart … My heart …… Wizards are doing something outside of the ForgottenRealms?????? I am in shock I thought those days were sadly over. I may have to give these a look … these and the recent Xanathars guide to everything are the sort of source books I have been waiting for since the Monster Manual…. credit where it is due … well done Wizards of the Coast.
Eberron eh? I haven’t heard that name for long time. Also Ravnica is home of MtG’s poster boy Jace so I am not shocked that they chose it as MtG themed setting over all others.
Its always good to see more D n D material.
These sound great. If nothing else I’d love to read through them.
I personally love the fact that they are finally mixing MtG and D&D but I am sure there are more then a few D&D players that would like some of the other classical D&D settings getting a book or two. Hopefully those are coming soon.
Hate to burst some bubbles, but the Eberron book online is not official. Its a third party update so the abandoned content from 3rd.
I was stoked till I looked into it after getting an email from DriveThruRPG
I don’t know where you got this, or what your source is. However you are wrong.
Wayfinders Guide to Eberron was/is being written by Keith Baker, the original author and writer of the setting. So I don’t see how it could be anything but official.
Also the book is a form of open beta, which is why its in PDF form for now and not a hardcopy. They plan to continue to refine the setting.
Just yesterday, when the Large Preview mode was still available, there was a full page “We do not own the rights to this content and if WoC releases this officially we will take it down”.
As of today the Large Preview doesn’t work…. so something is odd, but the source was their own publishing…..
Yup… just confirmed via Mike Mearls’ twitter feed. Its not official content. Yes he created it, but not its not a real DnD release. Just UA stuff that “might” get turned into a book if enough suckers buy a $20 pdf that is a work in progress to prove that its worth actually publishing by WoC…..
So your opinion is that its not “official” because its not in a printed form or a completed PDF document? Even though its being advertised by Wizards left, right, and center? Or the fact that Baker is the main author. Honestly, I know quite a few players that will be treating it as “official”, not that that matters at all to me. I could care less if its “official” or not, as long as its Eberron content. And seriously, don’t insult fans of the setting by referring to them as suckers… its pretty lame. Just because you have some odd… Read more »
What the crap is with your hostility? I was warning people to read the whole thing so they dont get hosed and feel ripped off. Read that damn reviews by people that want their money back before you fanboy yourself to death… Or the copious Twitter posts on Mike Mearls’ feed which very very very much agrees with my point. Not many people are please and feel taken for a ride within less than 24 hours of them announcing it. Its not official in the sense that its not getting a book UNLESS its successful, which is nebulous as hell… Read more »
Quoted from Mike Mearls feed” “This is 100% official content for Eberron. Since it is an ebook, that also means we can update content with comments based on UA playtests of the races and the artificer. If we do an Eberron print product, we will design it to complement as much as possible what the PDF presents.” So regardless of whether it becomes a book or not… its still official and canon as it stands. It is not fan made. Also most of the reviews I have read, have only been concerned with whether or not there will be a… Read more »
I always loved Dark Sun.Apart from our own campaign it was always our favourite
Planescape was always my favourite but Dark Sun was a close second.
EBERRON! WOOOOOOOOO!
A setting where magic is so advanced it’s like technology, there are numerous political factions quietly struggling for dominance and the designers assure you there’s a way to pull in things that aren’t a core part of the setting.
And another setting that’s exactly the same.
