TANKS: The Modern Age Coming Soon From Gale Force Nine

Gale Force Nine and Battlefront Miniatures are going to be giving TANKS a big update with a new take on the game which builds on the original and places you in command of mighty modern tanks.
It looks like they are aiming to revamp the entire game with TANKS: The Modern Age and bring it to a new era which sees much more modern tanks duelling on the battlefield. As well as a new rulebook we're also seeing them focus in on a new Starter Set as well.
As you can tell by the cover we're going to be seeing the Americans clashing with the Soviets in the set so we can assume that the time period is focused in on the Team Yankee timeline that we've come to know thanks to Battlefront.
We assume therefore that we're likely to see more focus on the clash between the Americans and the Soviets as well a showing from NATO, Britain and Germany further down the line as expansions pop up for the game.
There's lots more to explore about the game in the coming weeks and we hope to check back in with the team from Battlefront and Gale Force Nine in the near future to see what the box contents are and what has been tweaked about the rules!

Cool might have to dust off the Team Yankee tanks for this … Most of the Helicopters are in a state where they can be used for terrain
Could be interesting. The WWII version is a good beer and pretzels game. I love the Team Yankee models and have a British army that occasionally sees the light of day, so I’d welcome the chance to paint up the odd model from different nations in the period without having to commit to a full army.
This seems interesting.
I find tanks as an excellent way to get new players to Flames of War so maybe this will work with Team Yankee. It’s still very good as a game, team yankee, as we finally got Canadians so yahoo !!!!
If WW2 Tanks have the teleport ability, I wonder what technological advances BF will give these tanks.
I’ll almost definitely be picking this up as it seems like a good way to get some more use out of my Team Yankee Collection.
Not that it’ll replace that game – I play it more than almost anything else right now, though Kill Team has a good chance to change that.
Interesting as most modern tanks don’t seem to have the ability to survive in TY, will they make the game longer than 5 minutes.
Well, that’s somewhat realistic. After WW2 most armies gave up on the idea of “heavy tanks” that could survive direct hits from dedicated AT guns. With the power of most AT guns, the amount of armor required to stop them would restrict tank mobility too much. Interesting fact, the primary constraint restricting tank armor is bridges. If a tank has too much armor, it will weigh too much, and its weight will exceed the load capacity of most common road bridges. M1 vs. T-64 … great start by including the T-64. Nice to see the shift away from the T-72.
I like Tanks and it is a shame that GF9 was so limited in the plastic range of WW2 tanks. I would like to see more support for that game, with card packs for tanks they don’t yet have in plastic, as well as rules for Aircraft and small squads of Infantry.
The aesthetic of modern tanks just doesn’t do it for me.

I always wanted to buy the “old” Tanks but never did, maybe I get this one.
To date i`ve only read stories about WW3 (latest book is Team Yankee), it may be interesting to play instead of just reading.
it would be interesting to try the Warsaw pact cold war push through Europe in games.

@mage I expect we will see more details at Gencon. If this follows the same release schedule as Tanks WW2 version then we will only see the plastic kits produced for Team Yankee. This has been a restricting factor on the WW2 game and it would be better if they produced cards for tanks not yet available in plastic kits.
There really aren’t many tanks for Team Yankee that aren’t a plastic kit as of now. Leopard 1 and T-55 used to be resin, but since April or May both of them have been re-released as plastic kits. M1 / IPM1 M60 T55 T64 T72 Chieftain Leopard 1 Leopard 2 AMX 30 Plus a bunch of APCs/Variants for all the nations, plus some support/recce stuff for UK, US and Nato Allies. Plus, if they’re crazy, all the Helicopters. Mostly it’s the support vehicles (artillery/AA) and strike aircraft that are left in resin, and I don’t see them going to plastic… Read more »
And T-80s someday? Am I crazy to still hold out hope that one day we will see T-80s in plastic?
T-80s were discussed at the Battlefront Open Day in the UK a month or so ago. I don’t remember the exact time frame (V4 Eastern Front stuff is filling up the schedule pretty much through the end of the year) but there are more books coming with new stuff for Soviets and USA. T-80 and the Bradley AFV were both specifically mentioned.

Cool played the WW2 Tanks with my son, and this will give me something else I can use my Dutch Team Yankee force in.
