I have stopped playing a lot of games in my time.

I stopped playing Warhammer 40,000 because it was getting too much to keep up with.

I stopped playing Warmachine & Hordes because it was getting ultra competitive and ‘inchnerdy’ and lacked the character I was looking for.

I stopped playing Shadowrun because it was just an exercise in chucking handfuls of dice and our GM wasn’t great.

I stop playing the vast majority of games though because my friends and I just stop being interested in it. If a few of my friends are still playing card/board/wargames I’ll keep playing because I like the camaraderie of getting into a game together – when they stop, I usually stop.

I think that is the big reason over anything else. If my close friends don’t keep playing a game and I have to resort to going to play people I don’t know then I’ll end up losing interest in it.
