A unit of Gallowglass mercenaries sporting their washer bases. Although historically the idea of Gaelic mercenaries in a French and Swiss force is a tad sketchy, these lads did fight over the continent...and who can resist such excellent Perry sculpts? Also the armies 'mascot' has made an appearance as can be seen. This again is an interesting phenomenon, there are contemporary accounts of bears acting almost as mascots in front of troops from Berne. Whether they actually were used in battle is open to debate, but there is one original manuscript showing this. i intend to use the Bear and his handler as a non participant, adding a bit of flavour to the force.
The flag of the Swiss Canton of Berne. Inspiration for the 'Bear' mascot of the Swiss mercenary troops.
I got to get me one of those Bears!
@adamlee999 – A great project on a period of history often overlooked.
Thanks @oriskany! Yes agreed, quite a diverse and colourful period too!
And also, @adamlee999 , anything with bears wins in my book. 😀
