A Valiant Knight Charges Into Cipher’s Hell Dorado
February 6, 2014 by brennon
Cipher Studios have revealed a more finished version of Michael Legatus, an epic looking knight for the Westerner faction in Hell Dorado. Check out this armour clad rider.
The minds behind the model itself have gone into the specifics of his statistics and it looks like this chap will be leading from the front, charging through the ranks with his lance pointed firmly at a demons chest.
Hopefully we'll see some more angles of Michael so I can check out his armour but he does look very cool. My only change would be maybe putting him in a charging position rather than the more static stance above.
Do you think you'll grab this knight?

Thats some what simple, but it works.
That shield is gargantuan; it hides much of the detail of the model and I seriously question how easily a person could ride holding something of that size and presumed depth. If it was any larger it would be a pavise.
Not yet a pavise. So, not gargantuan, then.
Plenty of norman shields this size, and they were riding with them too, I don’t see why it wouldn’t work.
If that was a hard wood, close to an inch thick and with a heavy metal rim? Having to be carried one handed and resisting the up-down action of the horses movement? I am highly skeptical. Certainly you would need to be, even by the standards of a time when some classes of men would train from childhood for such conditions, a person of truly exceptional strength and resilience to carry it for any period of time and battles could last hours. And why exactly would you want to? What is it protecting you from? Arrows, bolts and stones? Perhaps… Read more »
Oh, and that’s only the shield that gets you riled up like that ? What about the horse’s caparaçon ? Or the stupid shape of the lance ? The illogical shoulder plates ? and… oh… I don’t know… the demons everywhere in the game ?
The shield coudl be wood, the shield could be an unknown metal lighter than anything encountered before, the man could be possessed with unknown strength or exceptionally gifted that way… OR the shield could be thinner than you think, and ornamental (like much of the guy’s armor, it seems).
I’m not riled up in the slightest, you responded to me by saying that you didn’t see why it wouldn’t work, so I elaborated on that point. My main objection to the shield is still how much of the rider it obscures.
Well, the shield works for me…
I do wish there was a better picture, though, as you said.
Hell Dorado is a fantasy world, therefore, if said fantasy character wants to ride around with a huge shield, so be it. I’m not sure what real knights would do in real life have anything to do with a fantasy game? If it puts your mind at ease, consider it enchanted with a feather weight spell. Sorted.
