Warlord Bolster The Australian Forces Of Bolt Action With Big Guns!
July 7, 2018 by brennon
Warlord Games has bolstered the Australian forces doing their island hopping around the Pacific in World War II with Bolt Action. The big push here focused towards some Artillery for Wave Two.
First up we have the 40mm Bofors AA Gun which was no doubt going to be incredibly useful as they held off the waves of Japanese fighters and bombers that were flooding the skies during the period.
That is followed up by the 6pdr Anti-Tank Gun where we see the focus switch from battling enemies in the skies and instead focuses down towards threats on the ground.
Beyond that, we have some smaller guns that would no doubt still have been incredibly useful, even if they were having to be lugged through some of the most sweltering hot spots out there. Here is the 2pdr Light Anti Tank Gun which might have been a bit more manoeuvrable when it came to the jungle.
We also have the 75mm Pack Howitzer which is ready to blow holes in the forest and scatter your enemies to the four winds...probably most of the time in bits.
It is nice to see that the Australians are getting some properly themed artillery to help them in their endeavours. The guns are probably guns that you would have seen amongst other forces, but the addition of the new crewmen and such really helps to cement them within the Pacific setting.
Commanders & Allies
When it comes to all of this artillery, you're probably going to need someone to range it all in. So, that's where the Forward Observer Team comes in as they watch over the battlefield and survey the movement of units from afar.
Some very special smaller vignettes and squads were also thrown into the mix so it wasn't all just artillery with the release this month. Here we have a Medic Team made up of some of the indigenous peoples as well.
The local Papuans peoples were on hand to give a helping hand and help get wounded soldiers out of the thickest fighting in terrain where vehicles just couldn't reach them.
Scouting ahead through the undergrowth we also have the Scout Team here. They would be a regularly rotated squad which would move ahead of the main force, watching enemy movements and making sure that the rest of the force wasn't ambushed.
It was a dangerous job to be sure and death could have been around the corner at any minute.
Last but not least we also have the Kachin Native Irregulars Squad who would have come down from the mountainous regions of Burma to support the Allies in their push against the enemy.
It is very, very cool to see so many of these outlying forces now getting themselves miniatures so that you can create a diverse force to battle it out on this Far Eastern front.
Are you tempted by some of these new models?
"It is very, very cool to see so many of these outlying forces now getting themselves miniatures..."
Those are really good.
welcome additions to the range – big fans of the Australians, very tempted to delve into the pacific theatre when I’ve finished my Guards Armoured…
I´m tempted by the Kachin Native Irregulars, because they might be the end of my search of finding “Irregular Indonesians”. The headgear could be turned into turbans snd the Indonesians are mainly muslims? Must check though, whether they were at the time of Dutch occupation.
Those are turbans already, no need to convert! And yes, most of the Indonesians were muslims back then too.
I’m tempted by them as well, to make X Force or something like that.
Anyone out there an expert in Australian uniforms? How does the Pacific uniform modelled here compare to what the “diggers” were equipped with in North Africa?
Apart from unit insignia I’m 99% sure Australian troops in N.Africa would be dressed identically to the other British and Commonwealth troops that fought there
great for playing the Australian side of the Pacific war along side the US in the Philippines.
Very tempting. Not sure if I should go chindits or Australian.
