Gorbad Ironclaw Character Breakdown

The great Orc warboss mounted on the farting pig! Warren and Darrell discuss his grand-high Orciness, Gorbad Ironclaw, one of the most popular generals from the Orcs and Goblins army book.
put him in a unit with 9 savage orc boar boyz with extra choppers would bring a world of pain. don ‘t have to worry about frenzy at ld 10 with a re-roll.
what does biggens do?
+1 strength
Nice to hear you giving some love to the named orc characters for a change. I like Gorbad, but not to the degree as you guys 🙂 He is one of my least favorite for single reason of him being too squishy. T5, W3 and a 3+ armour save is not what you want on your BsB and General. Normal troopers will have a very good chance at grinding him down and scoring 575 victory points! (375+100+100 for killing BSB & general) I would rarely field this guy…if ever. My choice of character is still Grimgor Ironhide. Fantastic protection with… Read more »
I have to completely agree; I think Grimgor is by far the best HQ choice in the book for all the reasons mentioned by mrsqueaker. I am taking Black Orcs anyway and Grimgor gives his unit some nice buffs!
The ultimate counter for Always Strike First models: Chakax! He even comes in cheaper than Grimgor and Gorbad at 335 points, but he negates Always Strike First and he Always Strikes First if anyone wants to attack him. He also has a great weapon at Str 5 base. He is a monster.
since the key to eteraity chamber has been FAQ to say “When fighting in a challenge, Chakax gains a 5+ ward save and his opponent Always Strikes Last.” well he has a great weapon… so he has always strikes last aswell… so your frighting at the same time as i cant see anything that lets him always strikes frist
Unless they changed the rules on great weapons (I don’t own the new rulebook), they only reduce your initiative to 1, with your opponent Always Strike Last, that would put the opponent behind Initiative 1.
Great Weapons still have Always Strike Last special rule.
Just a thought – with Gorbad being the army battle standard bearer, would he not be automatically killed if he was made to run from a combat, as per BSB rules?
I was wandering, is Grimgor Ironhide not a formidable substitute for Gorbad. 355pt 7 Str 8 attacks in the first round of combat, hatred, 1+ armor and 5+ ward save, T5, W3 and a good black orc unit that has hatred also. th eonly downside is that he can’t leave the unit.
