Just thought I would start a thread for folks to post their tanks and other military vehicles in . Always nice to see what others are doing with the gaming pieces / models we can get for 15 / 30 / 28 mm . So lets see one from each side if possible , and give a quick rundown of scale , who makes it and what if anything you’ve done detail it . 1st up I’ve got a Warlord plastic M4 Sherman to which I added the Company B resin / metal dozer blade . A very easy plastic build with a little tweaking needed for the dozer , just some plastic shims ( its a little too wide , made for a resin tank kit ) My second kit is a Warlord 251 C with the rear doors cut open and a squad of troops added to it . Bit of a pain to make half a dozen fit inside , but with a few leg swaps , it worked out . Always like the 1970s Tamiya 1/35 half track box art of the guys going over the sides , so I had to add them as well .Again just a leg swap and they fit . Let’ see what you guys have built
June 19, 2018 at 1:55 pm #1213043Next up a BA Churchill converted to an AVRE IV . I added the side brackets and reworked the bow gunner’s hatch by adding the sliding hatch for loading the Petard , We have a Rubicon Tiger built as an early , the BA late Tiger and just for fun , a T-34 / Tiger kit bash , sort of like the Kelly’s Heroes movie tank . TheTiger body is pretty much a perfect fit on the T-34 hull . I used a micro chisel to scrape / remove the road wheel ribs to give it the early style dish wheels
June 22, 2018 at 11:11 am #1215447I’ll join in with some 20mm.
This is an S Models Panzer III, I’ve modified with some extra stowage to look like the vehicle on the cover of the Battlegroup Torch book, and also as it’s a bit of an iconic photo from the desert campaign in general.
Allied vehicle is one of my M4A1, this ones a PSC kit, and I’ve added stowage from greenstuff
June 22, 2018 at 1:21 pm #1215501Panzer III looks great Andy , very dusty and worn with a hint of Panzer Grey showing . Really like the splash of color the flag adds to the rear deck . ( Note to self – find 28mm scale flags ) . The painted Sherman looks great as well , awesome job on the GS sandbags . What colors did you use on the Sherman ? Really like the contrast of the 2 colors
June 22, 2018 at 1:44 pm #1215520June 22, 2018 at 2:40 pm #1215592I think the green was brown violet, with a highlight of grey green from Vallejo, but I could be wrong. The blacjk is just Vallejo black grey. For 28mm flags give Flags of War a look. Think he has some.
P I think we should show some more…
June 22, 2018 at 2:47 pm #1215595This is a bit of a FrankenTiger, it’s a mix of Hobbyboss and Revell parts, as I found there were elements I liked from both kits, and some lacking areas, so mashing the two together gave the best result for the Tiger I was wanting to represent.
June 23, 2018 at 1:06 am #1216089Oh , Tiger II very nice piers . Plus your Croc and Pzr III M , very nice weathering . And Andy’s Tiger I looks great . Is that in the North African green over panzer yellow color scheme like the Bovington Tiger ? Or is it a Eastern front cat ?
June 23, 2018 at 1:24 am #1216091I just figured out a large part of my hobby time is going to be taken up in photographing my built vehicles . I didn’t really think about when I was building them . So 1st off we have one of my favorite tanks , the KV II . The larger one is a so called ” egg ” tank . by AFV , a sort of distorted caricature of a tank . AFV make about 4 different models of this type , as do Fujimi , and Meng make about a dozen ( plus planes and battleships ) of which I have 7 . The smaller KV is a Zvezda 1/100 scale tank for some sort of game Next up I have a Meng Tiger II . I sort of detailed it a bit with 1/35 scale tools , new exhausts from a GW Lehman Russ and various bits from the parts box to sort of match an early ” Porche ” turreted Tiger II . These kits are loads of fun and a nice break from having to be all exact in building and painting more scale models
June 24, 2018 at 4:39 am #1216566Here’s a couple I built as knocked out / abandoned vehicles . BA Panzer IV G , that I opened the turret side hatches , driver/bow gunner hatches and then thought , it might as well have engine trouble as well . I picked the left engine hatch because beneath that is the radiator which is easier to bodge up than the engine on the right . I used a 1/35 rad from an Academy APC cut to fit , and itlooks the part The T-34 is a BA / Rubicon kit bash . I had the hull left over from my T-34/Tiger project , and I had some extra Rubicon bits ( turret , wheels , hatches ) given to me . I’ve always wanted to build one these swamp / mud bogged tanks from the eastern front , the Russian lost a lot that way . A lot of their early war tanks had no radios so they pretty much played follow the leader , and if leader drives into swamp most of the platoon end up there as well . I cut the right side wheels in half and didn’t add any on the left to give the hull the sunk in look ,cut open the driver’s hatch , added a shim to the Rubicon turret so it fit the Warlord hull , faked up a gun beach and seats in the turret , and added a few bits from the parts box . Not a high scoring game piece but a great piece as scenery .Also used the base to try the Vallejo Russian Mud weathering effect product , worked a treat
June 24, 2018 at 9:54 am #1216698Just a couple
First a 10mm Sherman from Pendraken
And a 3mm Char B from Oddzil Ozmy
June 24, 2018 at 2:35 pm #1216837Wow , 10mm looks very good . Except for the thickness of the barrel , its got better detail than some larger scale tanks , And 3mm , you got to be kidding me ? How do you paint something that small and have it look that good ? I got bugs in my basement bigger than that Char B
June 30, 2018 at 3:50 am #1221485Here’s a Rubicon Stug III I built as a late Sturmhaubitze 42 . I added concrete either side of the gun casement as extra armor , I modified the side skirts to match a picture I liked , and I added shrubbery ( Army Painter Battlefields Poison Ivy ) Still have to add some stowage and a few tank riders on the engine deck Next I have a Warlord plastic Cromwell , to which I added some camo net on the turret and gun . I also added those very prominent lift rings on the sides of the turret , cutting , shaping and drilling out 4 small trianglar pieces , an then like a dummy covered them with said netting . You never know where you might find bits for this scale , my 28mm commander has a ( very under scale ) Brit Tankers helmet from a Master Box 1/35 scale kit and earphones from a Meng plastic bolt detail set ( love those sets ) . I added marking of the 1st Polish Armored Division ( 10th Mounted Rifles ) to add something different tom y Allied force
July 12, 2018 at 12:56 pm #1229995July 21, 2018 at 3:32 am #1237021A eastern front Pz, Abt. 505 Tiger II .
And a pair of Rubicon SU-85 s . Really great 2 in 1 kit ,if you take a little care you can swap out the upper hull and you’ve got yourself a SU-122 . Unlike most 2 in 1 type kits ( Warlord’s ) Rubicon gives you all the parts you need to make both gun casements . Love the kit so much I bought 3
