Father’s Day Librarian

About the Project
Having forgotten to pick up a Father's Day present, I dug out a Discworld mini to paint up for my dad. I was introduced to Discworld by my dad, and one of the reasons I love it so much is that it has brought the two of us closer together over the years (my mum says we speak Pratchettese). I thought that a painted mini of The Librarian would be good, to remind my dad that it's all his fault that he ended up buying tickets and driving halfway across Ireland so his then-19-year-old son could paint himself blue, wear a kilt and meet Sir Terry.

Fur Coat
The mini had unfortunately suffered a little damage, but this was hard to see once the base coat went down.
After that, I started painting the Librarian’s skin and fur in brown to give myself a nice, dark starting point.
After this, I added a red layer, mixed with brown to darken it slightly.
After this, it was time for the orange layer. This actually turned into a number of coats and darker washes to try and bring out the fur texture a bit.
Finally, I added highlights to The Librarian’s skin and fur, then moved onto other details, such as the corners of the book and his quill.
By The Books
I worked on the book as a break from The Librarian himself. This was very simple, with a red cover, which I painted in layers to make the cover bright, pages in bleached bone to give them that old parchment look, before adding text.
Unfortunately, the corners of the book were a bit damaged, but that’s ok as this is a book from Unseen University Library after all. A .303 Bookworm must have got to it.
The Librarian
The Librarian is finished and photographed in his natural environment.
